On a philosophical level teachers are essentially responsible for the future generation in term of what that generation knows, and feels, and potentially DOES.
That is a job of great responsibility, at least for those who see it that way and assume that responsibility.
Now when it comes to a Prime Minister, he / she has ingratiated him / herself, or lied and cheated with sufficient of the electorate to get voted in as a member of parliament, then ingratiated him / herself or lied and cheated, sufficiently with fellow MPS to get the top slot. And irrespective of President Harry Trumans comment "the buck stops here", a lot of time is spent I feel by many in the position, blaming their predecessors, their opposition, the global economy, and eveyone except the tooth fairy, and of course lying and cheating, for anything they can, and hanging on tooth and nail to the top dog position by whatever means possible. ... Which is worth ... a lot less to their electorate, generally, than they are paid.
In fact if they were paid for the responsibility generally assumed and honoured, they'd want a lot more. Which tend to indicate that many are there just for the power - trip. And you know the definition of "power"? The ability to punish their enemies and reward their friends ... and yes, that is the appropriate order.
Although I had a clever friend that used to advocate that we should as respective nations, pay a whole lot mopre for the job and hence attract a far better calibre of candidtes.
