Okay Saltfish, I feel comfortable chatting here instead of in the political board.

Have you planted any fruit trees?

I know this thread was created for Saltfish, but the other day I was reading a NYTimes article on house plants and absolutely fell in love with the following:

Commonly known as the Zebra Aloe

Commonly known as the Ponytail palm

Commonly known as the Elephant Ear

Commonly known as the Corn Plant

I totally fell in love with these house plants. I soo want the zebra aloe!!!

    Ebony02,
No darling, this thread not just for Saltfish and me, it is for all plant lovers and what all yuh doing in yuh garden.
I just had hubby dump 2 big wheelbarrows of mulch in a small piece of dirt and I have already stuck 2 zucchini seeds in the ground and some bunching onions.

You know that zebra aloe is so pretty, it would be a good specimen plant to keep around. The pony tail plant is also very easy to take care of

last Thursday I set-up my seven hanging baskets with 7 lobelias and 6 petunias each. They're looking establised already. Pics to follow, will be good to follow them along summer.

Planted Beef, Plum and another type of tomato, already lifted their heads in the greenhouse.
Garlic from last year going well.
Spring onions and chives already ready to be picked as first harvest.
...not seeing the 8 strawberry plants coming up yet....maybe George is eating them

Fertilised front and back lawns this evening.

My earthworms are FAT , I use RAID to keep away bugs including aphids on my roses especially the knock outs. I also use a bait that kills the slugs on contact. In January God's willing I am planning to make my whole garden area as a Green House so I won't have no big problem with bugs.

And you know something?, when like Falcon the chives are up already anbd the mint and thyme, that by summer to late Autumn you hardly visit the veg section in supermarkets. Like Falcon, my garlics and spring onions and chives are up already, some from winter bedding protection. When I get back from TT, i will put in cucumbers climbing up a tree and tomatoes, den I set for the summer and autumn, I really like to see the crops grow, makes me happy that this is life, a d the grandkids come over make their own fruit pies and fruit juices and make fruit icecreams and we make jams like mamma made in the village, I make my own Matouks pepper sauces, I have over 100 pepper seeds nurturing....hey guys go for it, yr home garden is rewarding.

I didn't plant any hot peppers this year. I have enough pepper sauce to last me a couple years. I have planted bodi, carilli, corn, butternut squash, watermelon, ochro, tomatoes, sweet peppers [red, green and yellow], cabbage, pak choi, brocolli, string beans, saim [1 hole] and cucumbers.

hmm, Saltfish, I just cant get ochroes to grow, and the corn seeds for 3 years were a waste of time, my brother in Toronto plants carilli, but I cant get seeds in the UK, i need chk the web. bodi =string beans yes> I tried that but went for FRench beans smaller plant, saim where do I get seeds? maybe when I go to TT to Centeno i get some. Good luck all, I guess we cant plant all we want but just enough to keep the land occupied and rotate crops. I am pleased with what I see happening now in the beds, but do you all have the birds and squirrels that can cause probs? as i get the starlings can wreak havoc with the grapes. I put fine plastic wire mesh on to protect this.

I got saim and carilli seeds from Sly1 and bodi and saim from Brag. I got some 6 months cassava which I will put down today as an experiment to see if I will get any. My yard is fenced and I have my garden fenced around. With the dogs running loose in the back yard squirrels and rabbits don't have a prayer.

The firt time I planted corn they didn't do so well, these past 2 years been getting really nice ones ... I used 10-10-10 fertilizer for them.

Ebony, My son and I went home to TT , 2 years ago and we planted 8 coconut trees plus took care of a wild Cinnamon tree, yes we call it cilimeint tree, and a mammy si pote, dont know the right name but these were developed but young, I am coming in soon to TT to see what gives, someone told me the coconut trees are bearing and the horse mango tree has a good set of mangoes, I hope they dont tief these out as I need to taste the fruits of my labour. I planted a pomerac also but think it passed away lack of water.. Dasheen is easy to plant, just the eye at the head of it where it will shoot out into the soil, I do that type of planti g in the UK, Heads of carrots, swede , parsnips they come up even the eyes of the potatoes come up good.

In my yard I have 2 blueberry bushes & 2 more to be planted. 1 apple, 2 pears, 2 plums,. 2 cherry trees and 2 Honeyberry.
Introducing you to one item if you do not mind.
Summer gardening, onions (bunching) if you can put your hands on this type of onions you might never have to buy another green onion AGAIN. It can be harvested 12 months out of the year. What you do is plant one onion, it looks just like a green onion/Spring onions/scallions, then it starts multiplying all around this one.
It is also call Potato onions http://www.veggiegardeningtips.com/potato-onions/
    See picture http://www.google.com/images?q=potat...ed=0CB4QsAQwAw
To harvest, just take a knife and gently plunge it down to separate the amount you need...got fresh scallions!

    NOT Egyption walking onions.

I am going to try those Sly. I suppose they withstand the Winter.
