Even though we know they are ridiculous, we all have games we play with fate.
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.

I wanted to ask God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Eh eh...surprise to read that Indie is superstitious.![]()
As we grow up, we realise avoiding cracks in the pavement would not prevent us from losing our job, or our parents getting ill. The more a person sees they can act on reality, the more they will build self-confidence and the less they will fall back on superstition. Does it do any harm to believe in in these little magical rituals? At the end of the scale, people can develop obsessive compulsive disorder, believing they cannot leave the house without washing their hands 50 times or something bad will happen. If we allow superstitious beliefs to dictate how we live our lives, they can do us more harm than good. Perhaps, most of us are inclined from the start to think there are unseen patterns, forces and essences inhabiting the world.
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.

Sportspeople, for example, are very superstitious. In modern day professional sporting competitions there is a
lot at stake, so it is no wonder that footballers wear lucky pants for every match as way of ensuring victory.
Of course it is an irrational practice - they should have confidence in their own ability, not in a pair of pants -
but the power of suggestion is very strong and if the believe something will b ring them luck, it probably wil.
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.

The unlucky number thirteen, historians have put forward two theories as to why number 13 is
regarded as being unlucky. The first is a reference to the Last Supper where thirteen represents
the number of men present before Christ was put to death. The second explanation ref rs to an
old Norse tale about 12 gods who were having a party when the 13th person joined them, the evil
spirit Loki, who killed one if the gods.
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.

Paragraph 2111of the Catechism of the Catholic Church states that:
It took me several tries reading this through to understand the meaning, but what I thinkSuperstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes.
It can even affect the worship we offer God, when one attributes an importance in some
way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy
of prayers or sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior
dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.
is that if your religious rituals and actions are not matched by true inner faith and trust in Him,
then you are in danger of falling into superstition.
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.

Thomas Aquinas, who wrote that 'superstition is a vice opposed to the virtue of religion excess'
that is , beliefs are considered superstitious if the arguments and evidence upon which they
are based are not valid or verifiable according to scientific criteria.

I think superstition is really just the same as religious belief. But naturally for some the latter has far more importance than the former.
