You doing as if fulfilling all them requirements is easy as pie.
THAT is the limiting factor itself!
Say if one could open a higher education institution, in some degree to rival SBCS, UWI and the UTT.
I'm not an expert in higher education as such, but to me these would be the main factors here:
- well qualified (,i.e. holding degrees from good or prestigious unis) academic staff
- continually updated syllabuses, mirroring latest advances/developments in given fields
- internationally recognised qualifications (whether diplomas, BAs/BScs, MAs and PhDs)
- up-to-date campus security (not like the clowns at UWI, and this is an area I hold some degree of knowledge in)
Could another higher education place in Trinidad be viable?

How so?
Getting good lecturers is not hard thing. just make them prove they hold degrees from good unis. And how hard is it to update a syllabus?

This is well known.

Am sure you went to school where you had teachers who could not teach.
It is extremely hard to update a syllabus.

Mammadon,
imagine you're a hot shot researcher, a ten year track record of high profile publications and you hold multiple grants in a few areas of interest.
will you try to further your career in some rolls royce institution where you have the funds, colleagues, facilities and accessibility to get your work done, or will you go to the third world, in a start-up University, with no accredition whatsoever?
ask UWI how difficult it is to get good lecturers nuh.
At this time, NO!Originally Posted by mammadon

Rule 3: Having a top rate school as an alma mater still carries weight but most of all, develop yourself.
Rule 4: Many of the old school people in T&T had no big degree but they had a dream, knew how to interact with people and the got a corner shop. They started small and disciplined their chirren!

I think there is space in the market for any thing that is done properly-in almost ANY sector.
We starved for quality providers of anything.

There needs to be an understanding of what constitues a quality education, as well as its limits.
IMHO a quality education is merely the 1st step in a long journey towards the attainment of knowledge and real understanding.
The business world for example is rife with well intentioned graduates of accredited programs and certifications who can expound at length on the virtues of the prevailing theories but are useless at getting anything of practical value accomplished.

I think the QUALITY of our degrees have dropped. It seems like everyone and their nenen can get a degree in SOMETHING and it ultimately means NOTHING.
It is especially bad in the business/management and marketing subjects. It just GRINDS me when I have to deal with these young Brand Managers, fresh out of UWI or whatever school. They feel they are hot stuff, have ego and attitude to spare but cannot read and COMPREHEND a brief, have ZERO instincts or ability to creatively solve marketing challenges and wouldn't know a good ad if it sat on their face and queefed...not to mention the poor grammer and bad spelling.
Now the international standard is, 10 years of experience in a profession = a 4 year Degree.
In this country, in certain professions, I can tell you, now that a 4 year Degree can NEVER even come close to 10 years experience.
