From the telecast you couldn't tell that Dimarche Gras was empty... they never did give a shot of the 'grandstand'...but the two commentators sounded pleased with the turn out.....maybe some patrons showed up later.... after the first round of ...... calypsos....that's what I would have done.... Why do they do two songs anyway?

anyway--in typical trini style we jes letting everything evolve--no plan no vision--Machel by so and NCC by so--and Barbados have plan for cultural centre---and we Carnival getting screwed up--it have more people leaving than coming--Rupert should provide dem stats too.

shield.... the telecast we got shot 'east west'.....so no, we couldn't see the North Stand or the Grand Stand..... the cameras were centered on stage..... once in a while we would get a longer view of who was lined up to come on.... or who came off.

Boy ah cudden see de stands fer Sunday night show.... buh yesterday..... man dat darm 'north stand' was empty..... T&T have tuh do two things tuh fill dem stands....

1. Do like some big international events do and sell....packages of tickets....where you get a break if you buy a 'package'.

2. Change the way the judge the 'pretty' mas....break up the judging so that some bands are judged on Monday....while others are judged on Tuesday.

The committee should divide all of the bands ...then draw to see who gets judged on Monday.... and who gets judged on Tuesday.....this way.... you put on a decent show..... both days.... and you avoid the 'log jam' on Tuesday.

I ent think he deserved to win Soca Monarch.

but he IS the KING of Carnival nonetheless. I was by Parade of the Bands and he had everybody bussing a wine ...

the Government should turn Dimache Gras over to private investors .. it was boring ... too long ... and they should have separate competitions for calypso .. kings and queens etc .. on separate days ...

if you love calypso like me ... don't go Dimache Gras ... too many distractions .. watch it on TV ... that way you could hear what they singing and judge it better ...

by the way ... i felt Kurt Allen was better ... better calypso .. better lyrics .. and music ...

from the talk i hear is that they let Cro Cro into the finals to place him last ... he had a great second tune with Chinese Kidnapping .. but when he threw in the political innuendo in it .. he lost the crowd ...

Cro Cro has a beef with TUCO and they will always punish him ... especially now that Gypsy is Minister and he could hold back their grant money..

they had better songs in the Semi inals .. like Shak .. 'Calypso Blueprint'

can you imagine if they had Skak and Ckalkdust squaring off the same night ... ha .. that would ah be like Melody and Sparrow

Agree wid yuh boy on dis ....Dimarche Gras marathon is ah real turn off fer people.

Somebody mentioned a few weeks before Carnival that the format would be changing (ah tin was Gipsy)....doesn't look like anything was done about it....as Shield would say.... it was another ....vaps
....like some people in Trinidad have ADD.... they display an inability to ....stay focused.

Boy they have to pull the calypso out of that show....geh dem ah show ah dey own....an leh dem sing jus one song.

I once suggested that they turn Dimache Gras into a 'preview' of the 'greatest show on earth'....do a show similar to the one MacFarlane did on Monday night..... have a few bands do a ....'choreographed' presentation....along with some nice music.

Some countered my suggestion by claiming.... 'people just want to play mas....dey eh hah time to learn no routine'.....

P....I contend that if 'thousands' of people could make their way to the pan yards 'for months' to prepare for Panorama....then I am sure there are also ....hundreds ..... out there who are willing to make their way to some hall ....to learn a few moves or steps to perfect a 'routine'..

From my perspective...the only two people in Trinidad interested in taking 'the greatest show on earth' to the next level are..... Peter Minshall..... and now Brian McFarlane.


And yes, I agree....Carnival needs to be 'privatized' (well some of it already is)....but right now.... there is too much 'government involvement' in every aspect...to the point where it is not blatant when 'the fix is in'.

The suggestion is that both Carnival days—Monday and Tuesday—be utilised for the judging of bands. The bandleaders, using a lottery system, would draw for the day on which they would cross the Savannah stage and for their positions in the parade. No band would be permitted to cross the stage on both Carnival days. I agree with this idea.


May I further suggest that the first four top bands in the Band of the Year competition of the previous year be separated so that they do not parade across the stage on the same day. For example, the top band and the third runner-up of the previous Carnival would be permitted to parade on one day while the first runner-up and the second runner-up would parade on the other day.


These suggestions would not only alleviate the congestion; they would provide the opportunity for spectators to enjoy “pretty mas” on both Carnival Monday and on Carnival Tuesday, and at the same time ease the inconvenience, disappointment and stress of masqueraders who up to Carnival 2012 were required to leave their homes very early in the morning and wait for many hours to enter the Savannah. The plan would give bandleaders the opportunity to see other competing bands.


In addition, spectators would have the opportunity to see more mas including all the big bands over the two-day period and they would patronise the facilities provided at the Savannah and elsewhere on both days and not only on Carnival. Tuesday.
Consideration may be given to limiting the size of the big bands and the time a band is permitted on stage.


To those persons who may be interested in this subject I suggest a visit to the Rio carnival website for more information on Rio carnival and on how the samba schools are expected to manage their respective presentations.


Pay special attention to the times allocated to the respective samba schools.
