Default Salt: do we need a limit?

Diabetes UK, continues to advise all adults to reduce salt in their diet,
limiting their intake to 6g a day. Think it's safe to eat as much salt as
      you like?

I think its a well known fact that too much salt is just as bad as too much sugar. Based on this, I have placed limits on my students' intake of sweet and salty snacks.

yes v, the rule is no 'unhealthy' snacks before lunch time and 1 coke/week. I may be adjusting this rule though. They have been so accustomed to having anything at anytime that I needed to enforce the changes gradually.

kids drink coke??? or did you mean coke as a general term for soft drinks.

Is that your rule, the school's or the Ministry's? I ask this bec i don't know abt this rule in my son's school. In my daughter's school though, no soft drinks or unhealthy snacks allowed at all.

1 coke/week is better than 1 coke/day .. it will be cut out soon though

v, by coke I mean coke, I still allow them the soft drink but that too is going to be cut. It is my class rules.. ministry sending sticky buns and chubby juice for breakfast.. dem doing anything?

Of couse you should limit salt even if it is sea salt. Eating too much salt would increase your blood pressure and could lead to a heart attack.

Some things that may seem OK but are NOT OK:
      - I can eat as much salt as I like as long as I eat the same amout of sugar.
      - I can eat as much honey as I like even if I have diabetes.

Trini, can I increase my salt intake but proportionally increase my water intake to offset the salt?

Like anything else don't over avoid it. Your body needs a certain level of salt and other electrolytes for it to function properly. A deficienct may cause severe problems.
