    Default Manning for US hospital

So the GOTT has approved $600000 for Manning to receive treatment at the Walter Reed General Hospital in DC.

There is no Walter Reed General Hospital!

There was the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. \

However that hospital no longer exists.

The doors were closed in August 2011, and it merge with the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center.

The next thing is .... Bethesda National Naval Medical Center just as the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, is a Military Hospital and except for the President and Vice President of the US, they do not admit non military patients.

    Something not quite right!

PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday said she has approved a sum of US$91,000 (TT$585,130) to pay for an air ambulance to transport former Prime Minister Patrick Manning to the prestigious Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington DC for additional medical treatment for the stroke which he suffered two weeks ago.

Sola, I was deliberately not saying anything, but the damage caused by the blood clot is more extensive than was being said. That is why I said that Manning will NEVER function the way he did before. He would be very lucky if he ever get back to 80%.

I was talking to my Cardiologist last night, an unfortunately it appears that T&T do not treat stroke victims the way they should. One of the first things that is done for stroke victims is to take them to surgery, and using a PET scan, locate the blood clot and physically remove it before too much damage is done ... brain cells die very rapidly [within minutes] when starved for oxygen.

One thing [according to Glen] you do not put a stroke patient in ICU and administer medications to dissolve the clot. The longer the clot stays is more damage that will be done to the patient.

The other thing is [according to him] ... at the onset of a stroke there is always a deep and searing pain in the head, and what is critical is how quickly a person having a stroke receives medical care after the pain and the numbness starts. Exactly how long after the numbness started and when Hazel noticed something was wrong, called the Dr. and spoke to him, for the ambulance to arrive and got him to the Hospital were very critical time lost.

Well girl all I can say I hope no one ever prays on your head and something like that befalls you. What a class act you are and when I call you hypocritical you get offended, maybe you don't read what you post at times, but you really need to get some help.

Like Kamla want to send de man somewey dat doh exist?
    She fraid him or wha?

Actually, the new name since August 2011 is

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Reed_National_Military_Medical_Center

So I guess she ain't far off. Incidentally, the original name was Walter Reed General Hospital...but that was long ago.

However, find she should send him to George Washington University Hospital, or maybe Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. According to this list, from the American Heart Association, these are among the premier stroke treatment hospitals.

    http://www.heart.org/idc/groups/ahae...ucm_435014.pdf

The hospitals I mention won Gold Performance Awards.

It really does not matter where she send him ... the ony thing that will make a difference with his infirmities is physiotherapy and speech therapy ... should he need it, then psychological treatments.

    Yes he is.

He even suggested that Duke University Hospital NC would have been the ideal place for him to go and they are one of the best Hospitals for dealing with stroke victims.

Ang... some of those sympthoms your cardiologist mention that stroke victims are 'supposed' to exhibit or suffer.....hate to disagree....but my mom didn't have the .... headache at all..... we knew something was wrong when she started having mobility problems to one side of her body...... and her speech and vision was off.

Oh, and in addition to Psyotherapy and Speech Therapy..... Patos will also need Occupational Therapy to teach him how regasin some skills .....and Psychological Counceling to help him cope with the emotional changes and mood swings he will be going through.....

glad he is being sent to a facility where they possibly take a 'holistic' approach in the treatment of his condidion.... I wish him well.

Ang... some of those sympthoms your cardiologist mention that stroke victims are 'supposed' to exhibit or suffer.....hate to disagree....but my mom didn't have the .... headache at all..... we knew something was wrong when she started having mobility problems to one side of her body...... and her speech and vision was off.
Snow, with all due respect, it kinda hard to tell if somebody have ah headache yuh know.

Yuh cyar see ah headache. Yuh cyar feel another person headache.

I am pleased that he is go receive further help even if it is in the US. But I must say I am shocked that he and his family did not insist on him going to Cuba.

Sly, he never needed a Neurologist before so it is quite possible he did not have one there and opted for that treatment here in the US.

Also there is a new "stem cell implant" research that is being done and tested here for people who have had a stroke and other Neurological problems, that could be another reason he chose to come here.
