Falcon Canada has been working on this problem for years...in addition to focusing on the local activities of these sick people....they have been following the 'tentacles' of these groups via 'Interpol' ...every so often we will read of arrests that extend to even other countries..... however.... the numbers they are catching seem to be just the tip of the iceberg.

One thing it tells me with regard to Canada's involvement...... in countries where you get cheap internet access..... you will find a prevalence of this type of thing....just my feeling.

I think the internet is not only feeding some old problems..... it is helping to create new ones...these sickos now have a medium to not only share their sickness with like minded people....but introduce it to others....it also offers (until busted)..... anonymity.

Being gay and exploiting children in the worse way are two separate issues......HOWEVER.... you may have noticed now that people understand that being gay was not a conscious choice for most gay people ....... that they were actually born that way...which is why they now know.... you cannot catch gayness.

.....whereas the taste for/appreciation of/ or.... addiction to child porn (or any porn)..... is something that people develop ..... after exposure to it..... I think.

I for one believe that on this particular subject..... exposing the perpetrator and jailing them....would be a big deterrent...while yes, many of the people who use those sites are sick..... many of the people who produce the sites are nothing more that businessmen....without a conscience.... they are in it.....because it is a lucrative business.....

I say,let's try to stop the cycle... let's cut of the source...then we can deal with why people are drawn to it.

miktay.... the 'threat' of exposure and possible prosecution has to have had an impact on ....... somebody....until we have a fool proof plan for dealing with this issue....I say use what we have.....and don't diminish what small tools we have ...by placing loopholes in the hands of some 'slick' lawyers.

Snowbird you're talking out of emotion more than logic. Most if not all human behaviour is learned or at least triggered by something in the environment. Understanding the causes of unwanted behaviour is the only way to put a stopper in it. It would also be the only way to ensure that someone once caught can be rehabilitated because frankly, they would be back out in no time at all - and then what?

All through history the big stick approach has never worked. It just makes people work harder to cover their tracks. You need to understand this. The fact this problem is so widespread does in fact suggest that there is something in society that is triggering the behaviour.

Too late. Research has been going on with these people for years. Most rapists, child molesters and other deviants who get sentenced to prison will spend at least a portion of their sentence in the prison system's psychiatric hospital.
Federally sentenced (those sentenced to 2 years or more) prisoners in Ontario will go to the psych hospital in Kingston.
Provincial (less than 2 years) inmates go to Sault St. Marie.

Again...the experts are already appearing in court. But in most cases it is not to get them off. It is to determine their level of sanity.
Most will agree that a grown man attracted to little children is sick to some degree.

Contrary to popular belief spewed by "hang 'em high" right wingers, being found insane at trial does not lead to a short cushy hospital stay. These guys do harder time than general prison population, in prison hospitals populated by some of the sickest individuals you could imagine. And those found not criminally responsible generally remain locked up in these high security "hospitals" for much longer times than if they were in a regular prison.
