Default Should Manning resign his seat?

He will recover (thankfully) but may not be his stalwart self afterwards. So if this is the case, should he still be Sando East MP?

People ent like Kamla and they, so if the UNC (or even COP) candidate lose bad, will this shake up Kamla and they? I think as it stands now, PNM's majority in the seat ent that high.

The people of San Fernando East voted for Mr Manning. The people of San Fernando East care about and support their PM 100%, in sickness and good health.

Mr Manning is our representative. He has 40 years of experience. The people of San Fernando East do not wish for another MP.

    YES ... HE SHOULD!

The reality is PHYSICALLY, MANNING WILL NEVER FUNCTION @ 100%, .... maybe 80-90% at best. He is blessed that he got the care needed at the critical time, however the damage that was done to the left side of his brain that was starved for oxygen at the onset of the stroke, cannot be undone.

BTW ... Sando East is a runaway win for the PNM in a by-election should Manning choose to resign.

If all yuh love and care for him so much then why don't you all encourage him to give up politics and take care of himself ... clearly Politics is taking its toll on his physical well being and also on his mental frame of mind.

Mr Manning is a capable man and can decide for himself what he wants to do. As far as I am aware, there is no medical reason for him to resign his post as MP.

Just because he has a medical history does not mean his independence should no longer be respected.

Can he serve if he slurs his speech or is a slow mover? Not to be offensive, but it has been said he will not be 100% as he was. Like in any job, if he physically fit to handle the job, so be it. He has heart problem and ting, even a minor cancer scare, but that didn't stop he. this situation is difficult.

Yuh know Gabrielle Giffords is in wuss shape than Manning and she was able to resign under her own steam.

Suppose Manning staying in parliamunt is good therapy for him.

It already had man calling the day after the stroke, and making mannema tuh position deyself fuh by election.

At least them cobo in the mang does wait ah day or two.

Politician really cyar eat sponge cake.

I don't see how that stops him from serving as MP.

I'm curious to how you see disability/accessibility legislation.

how so? His work isn't going to have any appreciable impact on his health. He's capable of performing his duties in his role as MP. If there are accessibility issues, those should be addressed rather than him being put 'to pasture'.

I sincerely hope persons asking for Mr Manning's resignation take note that they, themselves, might be told to resign, step aside, stay home, etc should they ever become disabled or otherwise impaired.

BW I am disabled and I have the physical limitations and Medical evidence to prove it.

Now let me explain something to you about a stroke .. yes there are and will always be physical limitations ... in Mr. Manning's case, like mine, the clot that caused his stroke was in the left side of his brains, meaning the right side of his body is paralyzed.

I have not mention the emotional ups and downs that plagues you, frustrate you and break you down into accepting that you will NEVER be completely whole again.

You have NO idea what you all will put Mr. Manning through ... NO idea at all!

Sirius ... you are right, it may be a bit premature, but this is politics and the game will not stop because 1 player has an infirmity. He is expendable and replaceable.

That's great Angie. Did anyone ever want you to be 'put to pasture', as you are so elegantly asking of Mr Manning? The man has a medical history, but it isn't up to us to decide how he will live his life.

And you seem to have a very warped definition of politics.

Replaceable maybe, but expendable? Manning, like Panday, is a past Prime Minister and one of the most experienced politicians in this land. Love him or hate him he has left his footprint on this country and can contribute much. We do not yet know the extent to which the stroke has affected him. As long as he is able to function he has every right to stay out his term of office so long as it is what he desires. He won his seat fair and square.

Meanwhile it is only fair to allow the man to recover before passing judgement.

Did anyone ever want you to be 'put to pasture', This is what you don't understand ... nobody will put you out or want to put you out to pasture, when you come to realize that you are trapped inside a body that cannot and will not function the way want it to ... there will be times more often than not when you will want to put yourself out to pasture as you are so elegantly asking of Mr Manning? The man has a medical history, but it isn't up to us to decide how he will live his life.

I am glad you said that ... so to heck with Sando East and what all yuh want!

And you seem to have a very warped definition of politics.
Wrong shoe on wrong foot Breds ... Eric Williams died and T&T politics did not die with him ... Chambers took over and the show went on!

We do not yet know the extent to which the stroke has affected him. It is fair to say, I have a pretty good idea. As long as he is able to function he has every right to stay out his term of office so long as it is what he desires. He won his seat fair and square. No argument there!

Meanwhile it is only fair to allow the man to recover before passing judgement.
It is only fair to let the man recover .... PERIOD!

I just love to read all the information on strokes, all the talk of Manning cant speak, he cant walk good, he will need care and so on. Yet not one person on here has any concrete proof exactly how Manning is at the moment.

On FaceBook I noticed it was said he was sitting up, he was giving jokes, someone claime they spoke to him on the phone, another said he told them he was good to go, so unless there is some hard evidence that Manning in a bad way and cant perform his duties I really wonder why all this talk about a by election and who should replace Manning?
