I'm not a parent but the rugrats are always around the place: it can literally take a second for them to get into a life-threatening situation.

There's only so much child-proofing that we can do at the house...

Thats not the point DB-you have to agree that before you had children you really didnt quite understand how encompassing they can be.
So the question is valid -because universally the experience with your own children will always lose something in translation

I know that up to and until I had my own son I really didnt understand the totality of their requirements.

I am a parent.

I know for a fact that people who don't have kids, always question your ability or non ability to be a good parent. Parenting is a work in progress and every day is a new day and you can only try to do right by your child.

You can't protect them from everything.....in this case, the scorpion.....I had someone in my family who baby died from a scorpion too. She was playing and saw the scorpion, picked it up and put it in her mouth....does not mean she had a bad parents...

Oh to be a one, or two, or three year old again

..... to see the world through 'brand new eyes' (to never misses a thing)
..... to be close enough to the ground that nothing at your level escapes your view
..... to be curious enough to want to explore everything that catches your fancy


that in essence is why that age group will have accidents....some with unfortunate results.

if I had a dollar for every time I grabbed something ..... out of the mouth of.....out of the hands of...or quickly removed an object or item that age group was not supposed to have....but somehow found..... I'd be a rich woman

oh, and I might add..... little ones seem to be drawn to things that.... wiggle or slither or crawl around.
