After years of enduring sexist jokes and taunts from their male counterparts, women drivers can finally take heart -- a new study suggests they’re actually better at parking than men.
Covert surveillance of car parks across the United Kingdom shows that, while women may take longer to park, they are more adept than men at maneuvering into a parking space, and when they park they are more likely to leave their vehicles in the middle of a parking bay.
The month-long study, conducted by the U.K.’s National Car Parks, was carried out amongst 2,500 drivers and looked at various aspects of parking -- including technique, accuracy and time taken to park -- in order to produce a “parking coefficient” -- an overall score of how well a driver parks.
The overall score for women drivers was higher than for male drivers. Women also fared better when it came to finding empty spaces, were more accurate in lining themselves up before starting a parking maneuver, and were more likely to use a driving instructor’s favored method of reversing into a parking spot.
“Women fared better in many areas of the scoring,” the report said. “This is despite the fact that, when questioned about their beliefs, only one fifth (18%) thought they were better parkers than men and less than a third (28%) of women believed they were better parkers than their partners.”

That is why, when I used tuh drive my car in Trinidad, I used to ask Dorothy tuh park mih PP for me in such ah way that it wouldn't get wreck.

Actually that was the way I was taught to parallel park....to the point that I have great difficulty 'driving into ' a parallel spot....
....also.....power steering helps ...

As a former parking lot employee I must say that MY studies have shown this UK study to be hogwash!

I worked in one of those garages where people park 2 deep, so my job was to direct people into parking spaces, take their key if they were parked on the outside, and move outside parked cars when the people who parked on the inside had to leave.
A lot of the female staff members (McMaster University and Hospital) were able parkers, having been at it for years, although some still never quite grasped the concept. Visitors, however, were another story. I would agree with the studies finding that women find parking spots better (either that or men keep looking for the right spot for their liking).

However, women visitors almost invariably pull into the spots on an angle (keep in mind that the parking spots in that garage are very tight). Worse again if they tried to back in. They would always park too close to one side, or not go back far enough to fit another car in front.

When we moved cars around we always reversed them in to make it easier for people to drive out. That wasn't enough for some women who would pull too far ahead to make the right turn out of the spot, and have to do a 3 point turn just to get out!

Sola..... here is a 'lesson' for you on parallel parking

thing is .... if like her you happen to be driving a 'Toyota Corolla'? ..... good luck if you are of 'average height'.

...I have one of them..... can't see a darm thing out of the back windshield when reversing....unless.... you 'undo' your seat belt...then 'hike yourself up'.... so that you can see over the top of the seats.....dem bucket seats are de worse.

I remember a time this doctor lady in a Mercedes SUV pull into a spot. I was in front waving her to keep coming forward (there's a car behind me/in front of her). The lady refused. When I ask why, she say is because the thing beeping in the car to tell her she close enough. I try to tell the lady how my eyes when standing in front her car are more accurate than any warning beeper she have.
Finally, I got her to come out of the car and look. Her car was still about 4 feet from being in a proper spot.

Can you imagine that? A big doctor lady doubting whether the parking professional (me, in mih orange reflective vest and all!) could see better than she warning beeper!

Had to patiently wait for the woman in front me to make a ten point turn that any fairly capable driver would have made in three.
Women shouldnt be allowed to drive.
