RE---IN---CAR--NATION---THAT WORD IS CURIOUSLY APPLICABLE TO THE ---New and improved Light Rail from Arima to PoS which has re-surfaced under a new handle but of course a better proposal of some sort. I am sure that this will now be the best idea since yellow clothes.
Govt seeks investors for $b light transit

NOW--I particularly like the part about private investment--har de har har. If anybody feel that there will have to be no subsidy on the cost of the transport---clue me in please.
Just like the Inter Island Ferry that is a private sector investment but we hearing about working out fuel arrangements--quite quiet.
Too much sleight of hand business and too many people happy with ti.
My guess is that this was a proposal Made In India. Time will tell.

Steve and I were talking about children one time, and he said the problem with children is that they carry your heart with them. The exact phrase was, “It’s your heart running around outside your body.” That’s a Steve Jobs quote
All yuh good yes, so once the plan looking good its ok?? Amazing I guess the name rapid rail was too high tech for the simple minds of the people of T&T, so change the name to Light Rail and that sounding workable![]()

Light rail does suggest something different to rapid rail.
I still insist that we optimize the road network before making any kind of investment in a rail system. Cars will flow freely east/west once all traffic lights are removed. A moving highway means we can revert the PBR to strict bus use with a regular schedule.
People still have to drive to the train station. The rail cannot unclog inner city traffic, and we don't need it to unclog freeway traffic. The idea sucked before and it sucks now.

Life never came with instructions, and since I am not perfect ... I will make mistakes.
I see nothing wrong with 'private investors' being involved in the creation of ...airports.....transit systems.... hotels.... office towers.... arts centers.... stadia..... even highways.....Hell that is the way it is done in 'fus world'....and you are correct....there will be incentives for these developers to get involved....so your duty as a citizen..... is to make sure these 'deals' are 'transparent'.
Right now the government of T&T is way to involved in the 'development' of everything in T&T....the have spread themselves so thin with all of these commitments....that they are unable to focus on doing any one of them.....properly.
T&T should let ...... businessmen build T&T instead of letting some .... 'fly by night Minister' .... who was previously a doctor, a lawyer, a school teacher, a geologist , some beauty queen et al.... try to do something they have absolutely no training or background to do.
Time spent on TTOL..... "time well wasted"
Aye Maccs..... see if yuh pick sense outa nonsense here..... but ah tink Rapid Rail and Light Rail is two different tings....tell meh wah yuh tink

Stuepssssss and it seem you know exactly what Manning and the PNM had in mind, all yuh slam the dam project from day one, now all yuh so full of understanding with this one, look give meh a dam chance yes stuepsssssss
"People took long to get fed up with Manning, but people have gotten fed up of this Government so soon — there’s no hope for them.” Basdeo Panday
This is what yuh have to look at:
What is light rail?
Light rail transit (LRT) is an electric rail-borne form of transport which can be developed in stages from a tramway to a rapid transit system operated partially on its own right-of-way.
The general term ‘light transit’ covers those systems whose role and performance lie between a conventional bus service running on the highway at one extreme and an urban heavy rail or underground metropolitan railway at the other. Light rail systems are thus flexible and expandable.
So yuh could start of with "Light Rail" and depending on population growth, population density, and increases in demand for public transportation, yuh end up with a "Rapid Transit".
But yuh see the donkey cyart posse, them ent want no kinda rail transport system.

Just bring the feasibility study for the rapid rail Zacky
And if the PNM can't stay on budget with a 300 mill stadium what yuh thing woulda happen with 15B worth of rapid rail?
If this govt doesn't have justification for this then I not supporting it.
So based on the asinine posts above allyuh wanted rapid rail under thepnm but vex it coming under the PP
If it was so good for the country why allyuh vex?

Who vex?
I glad if we get any form of transportation to prevent school children from traveling 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours back in the afternoon to pursue their academic goals.
I ent care if the PP build it.
I ent care if is light rail, rapid rail, of two skis tie on them cobo foot, with people hanging on from Arima tuh POS.
I just find that we daily commute for most people is a pain, and nobody doing anything about it.

Thanks Zacky..... I couldn't make heads or tails of that link.
.... anyhoo..... we (my city) getting LRT which will be phased in over the next five years
... Thing is..... we have been working through the processes on this since ..... 2004.
... We have only just got the final O.K. (approval from all levels of government and citizens groups) as to the route....and when construction will start.
http://stevemunro.ca/?p=2316
If this is what in mind..... strap yourself in.... it is going to be a long ride.....apparently there is more to it than .....throwing up some rails.... and dumping some trains on them.
Oh, forgot to add.....while some areas on the system will be getting trains.....some areas will be serviced by buses initially....then if the ridership warrants it....trains will be added later on to those areas.

serious ting and yuh following da woman dress tail-----anyway the proposals due by February 20sumtin--kinda quick eh? maybe it have a preferred provider arready? I waiting patiently for this to play out--
What is quite apparent is that the PP Government more interested in dividing up the national patrimony among a selected group than running the country for us all. Look at that issue roger keep harping on---it now seems that a certain constituency has been selected to have largess descend on them in significant proportions---and all the defenders of the demographically correct government cyant see through the yellow veil and happy happy.
reds--in this case is not what nah--is how.

Removing traffic lights on the Churchill-Roosevelt highway is difficult though, and will require plenty of compulsory purchase and road re-structuring to accommodate that. I think a light-rail could work in the East-West corridor, or between north and south. Say a line running from town, stopping in Chaguanas/Couva, and terminating at Sando or Princes Town.
Man is the measure of all things. Happiness is finding one's own measure.
The installation of maybe 3 more flyovers should be a relatively minor expenditure when compared with the sheer amount of construction and land acquisition that will be required for a rail. Unless we condemn the PBR there is nowhere to put it right now, and to go overhead requires massive construction. Fixing the highway is a much faster solution to implement too, and one that will be needed with or without the rail.
If there is indeed a need for a rail it would be east/west as a matter of priority. North/south already has the water taxi commuters can fall back on. BUT: Try the simple solutions before the gargantuan ones.

Telecommuting, flexi time, exponentially increase the Water Taxi-which is an EXCELLENT SERVICE, offer incentives for business to HQ outside POS,offer all govt services outside POS,better bus service. If there is indeed a need for a rail it would be east/west as a matter of priority. Devant Maharaj is a true visionary. He is not seeing as far as his big toe. He is looking way down the road.
Yes we could move lights and build flyovers.
That is a quick fix.
But will our population remain the same?
Do we actually want to change our dependency on cars and small capacity means of transportation, as is done in them fuss world countries.
We have to start looking beyond our big toes.

Snow, I doh know nah.
So ah goh replay one of your famous quotations: "Yuh cyar want for people what dey don't want for themselves"
If they rather drive and smell exhaust fumes all part ah they backside, ca fait them. Or perhaps they rather drive dey cars every morning, so that they could do the following, in no particular order:
-- Stop and buy ah newspaper
-- Stop and buy two doubles -- one with peppa and one without.
-- Stop and drink ah soft jelly coconut water.
-- Stop and slurp down some oysters, because they have ah session with the deputy later.
-- Drink ah Carib with dey pardner.
-- Pull aside and pee against ah tree.
Then pull in the parking lot together with they boss about 2 hours late, and both ah dem complaining how traffic was so bad.
I just think that reaching early to work, via the comfort of a nice, smooth, air-conditioned train ride goh kill plenty Trinidadians.
And if that ent kill them, getting 8 hours sleep ah night, now that they ent have to get up 4 O'Clock to reach to work for 8 o'clock, goh definitely kill them.
"A vote for the COP is a vote for Satnarine Maharaj and Devant Maharaj" -- BigZack
Twisting words.
I would rather have the solution implemented now that we need now. Once that is working, we can start making sure we don't run into problems 10 years down the line. You feel the rail means we won't need the flyovers? Prioritize.
It's easy for you to say "wait 10 years" when you are not the one suffering in the traffic.
