I think it's done for two reasons. Just for fun, and to rub up against somebody one finds attractive.

I think in that sense, especially the latter, the adult wining on a child is warped in the head.

I would say also that a 10 year old shouldn't be near adult fetes or carnival activities. The average fete should be adults only, period. I'd feel frankly odd going to a fete, drinking, old talking, wining and seeing a child there.

I do agree with mammadon. As a seasoned masquerader myself, when I'm on the road playin ah mas, I come across mmmaannyyy cherran. I do maintain a level of boundaries and who I teef ah wine from. Cheran, especially small ones, I only take pics with. Older cherran 7-17yrs, take pics only. Over 21yrs, I teefin ah wine!

....and there in lies the problem......for some reason it is.....ASSUMED....that as long as the other person is 'over age of majority'...that it is O.K. to go 'wine up' on them....and it isn't

just like it is WRONG to act in a lewd manner to or with children..... in the name of Carnival...... it is also wrong to assume that just becaue it is Carnival you can go .....wine-up ...on anyone you feel like.

Not sure how the bands or masqueraders in T&T approach this 'expectation'....but here in Canada..... one of the things the band leaders/section leaders do (in some bands anyway)..... is to include in their text of instructions they give to their revellers.... a reminder that not everyone wants to participate in wining.... and for this reason.... do not ....'harass' your fellow revellers

.... The 'Band Marshalls' are also charged with the responsibility to 'police' any unwelcome behavoir (drunkeness, uninvited wining)......

If you 'set some standards' and establish some boundries...... generally the people will comply.

No......not for wining Falcs...... ah realize some Trinis kar go widout dey wine..... 'standards' would be for......when, where, and with who...... not this free for all that is now taking palce.

Right now I think it is disgusting that the masqueraders busy bussin dey wine (and sometimes you have to wonder if they haven't gone to the next level) .....right there in front of the little children. Is it any wonder you see the children acting in the same way (as in that video we saw here on the fourm).

What about ppl wining on somebody else man/woman, with that person right there? Disrespect? Or they simply taking a wine?

Let's just say....one man's right to 'cultural expression'..... is another man's ....disrespect.....

Different strokes for different folks....but judging by the extent of 'wining' going on at carnival..... I would say.... most Trinis have determined it is a..... cultural expression.

...But then again....that goes for anything in T&T that is done in bad taste.... if it is done often enough... it is justified by.....

Some people consider that to be acceptable but I think it's very disrespectful!

    Falcon, I hear you ...
To those who understand, no explanation is necessary; to those who do not, none is possible.
    Nathaniel Branden, "Social Metaphysics."

Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is; treat a man as he can and should be and he
will become as he can and should be..

debates - I have given those up long ago. Life itself is a quotation.
