I just trying to figure out what the noise is all about, to me some minister claim that they will stand by collective responsibility when time comes to make a decision on hanging even if their personal views may not be in line as to what the government wants to do. I see nothing wrong with that.

The Opposition sits in Parliament slams a bill over and over then go and vote with the Government on it, is that not the same thing now.

MP Warner suspends death penalty petition
Friday 3rd February, 2012

The national petition for the enforcement of the death penalty by the Minister of Works and Infrastructure has been suspended.

The petition titled 'A Fisherman's Cry' was launched by Minister Jack Warner on Wednesday in a bid to get supporters from all over the country to assist him in gathering signatures from the public to support the hanging bill.

The petition was in response to the murders of three fishermen last month, two of whom lived in Mr. Warner's Chaguanas West constituency, while the third lived in Longdenville where Mr. Warner grew up.

Mr. Warner said following a meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday February 2nd, 2012, he wished to inform the general public that: "With immediate effect, I have decided to suspend the initiative that was started to implement the death penalty. My thanks are hereby extended to all those persons and /or organisations that had assisted me at the launch. This is my final statement on this matter."
