Private Files Being Corrupted

Can anyone advise? One of my wordpad files has become corrupted so that the majority of it is no longer accessible (a garbage character appears throughout the file.

Can anyone here say what might be the problem? A sample of the text is shown below:

Dunno but this link worked. Really fascinating article though. Delete the original file and replace it with a new one - problem solved.

*** The link was not the problem Guyguy. That first post was just one article in a private wordfile in which I had hundreds of others stored. Soon after posting a thread about Deosaran vs Gibbs in the crime forum this evening all my files, including those with former articles on the Commissioner were blanketed off by those backslashes you see in the post above [\\\\\\\\\\].

It seems someone may have hacked into my computer.

Help anyone?

Hmmmm ... you may have been hacked indeed or it may be a simple file corruption. Gat a Mac and avoid these types of problems in the future.

It was heavy thunderstorms, and there was something funny about it. For the first time it actually 'looked' as if 'rain was coming' from a Trini perspective. I guess the process of cloud formation was different, or the speed of the process?

Roger you can probably do a search online for programs that can try to recover your file. If its Wordpad then look for programs that can recover .rtf files.

Another option is if you have MS Word installed, make a copy of your damaged file and try opening that copy in Word as follows:
- Click the Office Button (assuming you are using 2007)
- Click open
- Locate your file and select the file (don't double click)
- Click the down arrow next to the "Open" button on the bottom right of the open dialog and select "Open and Repair"

Since Wordpad usually saves in a .rtf format instead of .doc or .docx I don't know that the built in MS Word Open and Repair can work but once you're using a copy of the file it can't hurt to try.

Always, always keep a backup of your data. Go out of your way to regularly back up your data especially when it is important. Files get corrupted, computers crash, hardware components fail...these things happen and it does not matter what hardware or software you are using.
