    Default Australian Captain declares

while he was 329 not out.

Would the Prince of Port--of-Spain had done the same, providing he didn't have a plane to catch to meet up with Yorke and Latas on carnival Tuesday?

    http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2012/s3402802.htm

Michael Clarke's triple century surpassed the previous highest score at the SCG set by England's Reginald Foster in 1903.

    And he didn't stop there.

On his home ground, the thirty-year-old soon passed Bob Simpson's record of 311 runs versus England in 1964.

The next record to break would be the 334 set by Mark Taylor against Pakistan in Peshawar in 1998.

But just five runs short Michael Clarke declared on 329 not out, leaving India to chase a staggering 468 runs with two days remaining.

A young captain, smarting from recent seriously embarrassing losses must ensure the best chance of winning the game.
He made the point in another interview that he never had any intention to challenge the summit.
Lara's push to 400 coincided with the number of runs to safety, to not lose the game and get whitewashed. There was also enough time in that game to win, but Lara dropped Flintoff.

There was no guaranteed say that he could have got the 60 odds run to passed the record
Had he push to get the record and lost or drawn the match he would of lambasted by the Australian press because Clarke looked very tired on his approached to 300,
in the land down under the only record they care about is the sir Donald one
**** with the way we play sometimes that record will be broken soon against WI
Big to answer your question I think Lara might of declared because after all he broke the record 2 times , A young lara could of batted for 5 days if he wanted
To this day I still blamed to Lucifer’s of the WI board for forcing him to quit the game before his time
Meh Man Kumar go break the record soon , watch and see….

Clarke knows how many people fell trying to climb that summit, and the danger area is usually 330 and above.
He conveniently stopped just before, thereby preserving the not out and adding 300+ to his total, and raising that average. Lots more to be gained in his case than just a score. No hypocrites should even utter the word unselfish for this.

Falcon do you think the record could be broken? and if so . who do you think has the best chance? I always felt that Jacques has the best chance of doing so with his discipline and patience
Also IMO I have considered him the best all-round cricketer for the past 5 yrs or so

From the batting I've seen since Lara's record II, I would have to say anyone of about 10 batsmen worldwide could do it. That said, the 300-400 leg of the journey is a test like something out of an epic fantasy adventure movie. Only the mentally tough will survive.

    Kallis, Amla

    Jayawardena, Sangakarra

Clarke because of last week, Hussey and Marsh

nobody from England; not Cook even

Sehwag only because he may find another pitch and another series against Bang. Never again against Pak

    nobody from Bang and Zim

nobody from Pakistan; not even Khan

Darren Bravo; and Gayle because he reach there already. There may be something special about this Edwards fella but I ent naming him in this list yet.

Top five most likely in the future: Darren Bravo, Hussey, Clarke, Sangakarra and Amla.

The problem with breaking that record is that a team must have at least two players batting in any one inning capable of breaking the record.

One to chase the record and one or more batsmen capable of not playing rash strokes and giving up their wickets easily.

Every time a new batsman comes to the wicket, he has to find his "sight" before the batsman chasing the record becomes more comfortable with his partner.

Well vacation over so getting back into the computer and ttonline groove. I remember that night when Clarke was starting from 293* - I went up by some family that I never knew before in Diego Martin (that place real far from south and they have no proper signs on the road so at one point I take the wrong turn off just before West Mall and was heading back into St. James instead and cars was blowing me as if I dotish when I was trying to filter back into the lane ). I tried to rush back home to see the man bat and then he declared.

I have some inside info on WI cricket too. One of my family come down from Toronto who used to play with Dhanraj and Lara and now he with some Guyanese.

Michael Clarke's batting average going into the Third Test against India was 45.19. Scoring 329 not out, his batting average climbed to 48.39.

Scoring 350 plus runs in a Test match is quite a challenge. There are a few men in the history of manking that achieve such a feat.

I miss Brian Lara, as he was a pure delight to watch. Maybe he would not have declared given the same circumstances, but you never know.
Is it change or exchange we get? Time go tell!!

And he scored a double century lastnight.

The good this is when they coming here in March/April at least they would not be playing any tests in Antigua
