Kamla going back to roots

Well so much for Alex Haley "Roots" we living it right here in T&T. Our PM is now the new Kunta Kinte, as I have read this morning in the Guardian.

A leading Indian newspaper is reporting that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will pay a visit to the village in India where her ancestors lived during her official trip to the country, which starts this week. In an article published yesterday, the Times of India reported that Persad-Bissessar’s trip to India would include a visit to Bhelupur village in Buxar district from where her ancestors had migrated to Trinidad.

The Prime Minister will visit the village on January 11 “in search of her roots,” according to the newspaper. “Her ancestors are said to have migrated as Girmitiya labourers to Trinidad and Tobago, then a British colony in the Caribbean islands over a century ago,” according to the newspaper.

All yuh think it easy with we PM, looks as if its going to be another bumper year for lights, actions and PR, welcome to 2012 let the games begin, as we keep our fingers crossed that the Mayans were not correct in their predictions.

I would imagine that not all of her ancestors of a century ago came from one village.

Everyone has 2 parents, 4 grandparents, and 8 great grandparents; so it would seem unlikely that all her 8 great grandparents or 16 greatgreatgrandparents left the same village in India and came to Trinidad and stayed in enough proximity in Trinidad for a century to keep intermarrying.

I cannot comprehend the vitriol being spewed on this Thread about Kamla's visit to India and visiting the village from which her ancestors came. I can understand maccogirl's virulence but cannot understand the comments by others. It's interesting to note that maccogirl didn't say a single negative thing when her Lord and Master visited India to find his roots nor when Manning and ANR went to Africa. Hypocrisy, envy and jealousy permeate this Thread. I am certain that if given the chance, anyone one of us would like to "find our roots" regardless of where they originated. I know that I would.

Interesting that, like maccogirl, it didn't seem to make a difference to you and the other naysayers when ANR, Panday and Manning did the same. You all were pretty quiet then. And, what is the rational for this State visit - to primarily "find her roots" of is it a small part of a bigger picture?

Of course she didn't go India simply for this, that would be too obvious. There are other duties, of varying uselessness which involves the big entourage.

Why is it just because ......someone else did it..... automatically......it's O.K.

things in T&T will never change if official after official keep repeating the same 'waste of taxpayers money'....saying......'well he/she did it'..... as Falcon said.....do as much 'root hunting /pulling' as you want..... but do it on your own time....and with your own money.

How stupid of me to even consider that a person who hasn't been to T&T in over 40 years would give a hoot about the country and more importantly, her ancestry. (You're a real dumbass guyguy). There's a saying we people from the bush use often: "Never burn the bridge you cross." What is confusing is that since you care so little about the country, why criticize it and its people. When you take your children back to your old stomping grounds in the hood where you came from in Trinidad, they does appreciate you more.

They does say, "Look where my mother and father came from, and look where they are today".

Then they does be interested in the hard work and sacrifice that you make along the way to reach where you are, and provide them with the opportunities that you have afforded them.

I love my country -- sweet Trinidad and Tobago.

And if I had to be born over again, father lord leh mih born in Trinidad and Tobago again.
