The calypso finals will be held on Carnival Thursday night. It will be held under the auspices of TUCO.

The King and Queen of Carnival competition will be held on the carnival Friday night.

And as you know, the steelband competition will be held on carnival Saturday, under the auspices of Pan Trinbago.

The Dimanche Gras will take the form of a grand concert.

This is not a bad idea.

But what will happen to "Champs in Concert" now?

Zacky.....this revamp of Dimanche Gras is long overdue.....

The one complaint I have heard for years (from especially visitors and Expats returning home) is that the show is way tooooooo long, especially the calypso segment.

Many of my relatives and friends have just stopped taking their 'guest' to the show as it just does not have enough 'substance' to hold their interest. I look at it on the net, and have to admit....even as a Trini..... I sometimes get bored.

The Dimanche Gras (Big Sunday) format should be one that 'showcases'....the best of the best of Carnival....it should be as the name implies ...the biggest and the best show on Sunday..... the show should include 'all of the winners' of the previous genres associated with Carnival.... and then some... Dimanche Gras should be the 'Grand Finale' of cultural shows..... leading up to Carnival.

I'd pay money to see that ....hell, I'd even come to T&T for a decent... Dimanche Gras

Over the years, the calypso competition has taken on a distinct political flavor, where they emphasize topics that, if you not au courant with present politics in Trinidad, yuh would ketch yuh nenen tuh understand what they singing about.


As ah tourist, yuh either laugh when them Trinis laugh, or look chupid.

Nah man..... sounds like what they are doing is 'thinning out' the show to make room for ..... more of a variety.

In it's current format..... there is just 'too much of the same' ....the one complaint I (and many people) have about that show is ..... it too darm long and boring.

Let's leave 'long and boring'..... and .....'too much of the same' .....for Carnival Monday and Tuesday

I am not sure Snow but I have a feeling that show will be dull and boring to me the excitement was the songs and who was going to win. Taking that part out of it a lot of people will not attend, half of those shows anyway are poorly attended as people fete that week before Carnival.

Maybe their idea is to have a show for the tourist, as the locals will stay home watch it on TV, as for the bats, and old time Carnival we have that in the day time that same Carnival week in POS on the Avenue, so that is not really a big attraction getter, I do believe that plan will fall flat.
