They say they are at abt 60% so far.
When can Trini become so?

Barbados is comparatively small and flat. They also have a small population at only about 286,000. It is therefore relatively easy to throw a wireless net over the entire island.
In T&T we have an irregular land mass, two islands, mountainous terrain, and a population of around 1.2 million. We also have a very fierce business sector who probably would not be very open to such an initiative. If free internet is offered here anytime in the near future, expect it to be in limited areas, capped to a minimum speed for browsing only and heavily subsidized by advertising.
What I think we could and should be doing is using 4G to connect all those student laptops onto a nationwide intranet (note not internet) full of educational resources maintained by the various schools, the Ministry and NALIS.

Well ah realise we doh have good internet infrastructure becos I have no hope of ever getting blink by me and the other day I went to find out abt wimax and was told my area to congested they not giving any more devices. But on same breath they said I cud get the blink on go for like $500+ but even tht wud not work good becos it to congested
So greendot for me.
Your only alternative to GreenDot might be when 4G is eventually rolled out across the country. The shortfall with DSL is it only works within a certain radius of the exchange and well, I don't know why FLOW is taking so long to move everywhere over to digital.

Even love is at a price BW, don't be fooled.
They said I to far from the exchange, although I live abt 15-20mins from the exchange.
I don't have flow my area either and they have no intension of coming.

Flow operates in particular areas and they're not even 'digital' in all of these areas...
xDSL technologies are way too finicky with ADSL,ADSL2+ and VDSL and VDSL2+ being marketed by TSTT as their 'Blink Broadband' and 'Blink Entertainment' services respectively.
I think that the local telecoms have a 'wait and see' approach as per investing in new services as network upgrades/new roll out is a massive and expensive undertaking and they're at the mercy of the network equipment manufacturers and relevant software providers.
However, relying on the current infrastructure to carry the new technologies is non-sensical but that's what they're trying to do until everything collapses [see Flow and their frequent outages especially south of Chaguanas].
Sola's issue is common: I got Blink in Moruga close to a year before my nephew closer to Princes Town because they changed all the plant [lines, etc] here after years of us complaining and roadworks tearing down poles and lines. The new lines are fibre with a copper overlay which works better for me here in the bush where the exchange literally had to get closer to me in order to get the ADSL2+ service.
The following are some of the common reasons why your area might not be able to get xDSL service:
(1) You might be served by a RIM [Remote Integrated Multiplexer] which is a device used to provide telephone services in areas where there is no existing copper, or the existing copper in the ground cannot support the demand for services in the area.
(2) Your area can be served by a Pair Gain techonology device which generates extra telephone services in areas where there are not enough copper pairs to provide everyone with the services that they require.
(3) Your area may be served by Loading Coils and/or Subscriber Line Extenders which allow for expansion of the voice network to the detriment of data transmissions.
I think that TSTT uses the first two to expand their network to facilitate voice communications so hence the present predicament that a lot of their subscribers find themselves in.
Thanks to my niece for the technological research...actually copied and pasted parts of her school project...![]()

After yrs of the lines being stolen I think they replaced most of it with tht fibre one. Lines haven't been cut since then.
But don't think we wud get blink since we ' to far from the exchange'.
Almost everyone in my area have greendot tv or direct tv.
Direct tv shud bring internet.
posting this link here:
http://www.govtech.com/e-government/...Announced.html
that details the 'free islandwide wifi' on Oahu, Hawaii. It sounds suspiciously like what the project in the OP is announcing.
What they are doing over in Hawaii is asking existing businesses with existing internet connections, to connect a provided WiFi router. They do this across the island, and create a mesh-network that way. The businesses get free advertising in exchange for use of their resources.
The upside to this is that it's "free", easy to deploy, and in theory should scale fairly easily.
The downside is that it relies on participation of businesses (who may lose interest), is in-practice limited to urban areas, and doesn't provide anything in the way of new infrastructure to the rest of the population. There are also compromises (as described below) to prevent abuses by end users.
I would also suspect there is a significant network security and privacy risk to businesses that participate as well.In exchange, the businesses receive free advertising over the system. Every 30 minutes the Internet connection is refreshed to prevent illegal downloading, and when it boots back up, and the user is reconnected, they are immediately routed to the website of one of the businesses who are housing the antennae.
Looking forward to whatever B'dos implements but I'm not holding my breath.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I was quite impressed.
That you admit to plagarism, and skulduggery.
Finally
I dont believe that there is the corporate culture that will push to allow unfettered free access to something that they have control over.
They will use the technology excuse and the cost excuse-in order to protect their revenue streams-TSTT is guilty of this for decades.
In 2001 I was told that TSTTs cost to transmit a call to the US over V Sats was less than 1 cent US per minute.
Whats the cost now and where was it in 2001 and before.
I think the telecom monopoly has done more to stifle progress in TnT than almost any other entity(besides the UNC/PNM etc)

Hmmm...you've got to cite sources,yute...or else...
Hmmm...TSTT's been doing that since time began viz draining the customer's wallet to make obscene profits...
The cost of calls keep decreasing as most telecoms use VOIP with there being no distinction as to whether or not the information being transmitted includes voice.
The cost of equipment to run these services is the bone of contention with most of them where the vendors/manufacturers have them in a grip with expensive maintenance contracts or a regional representative who speaks little to no English...![]()
I think that they can get past that overhead by rolling out their network to more customers instead of concentrating on pockets where they earn income:more customers means more service pick up...

how do the bajans and they have nationwide wifi? so all internet traffic is via wifi? No wired Layer 1 like Ethernet?
I think that it's a good idea, but what about security? Will all bajans get a log-in, and will it be WPA security?
Also, a nationwide Wifi could work in Trini, it would depend where access points are stationed. In big towns like Town, Diego, Arima, Chaguanas, Sando, etc. maybe, but less populated areas like the Northern Range maybe not.

Tobago? Wifi like Ethernet is largely good in a range of a few hundred metres or so. At best, there would be coverage in Scarborough, Plymouth, Crown Point/ANR Airport, Charlotteville, etc. but in the Reserve, nah I ent seeing dat. The only wireless wide area network in operation is 4G similar to LTE in the States. But wifi as in home computer/enterprise wifi, well that's experimental at best. I wouldn't expect commercial application for a few years yet.

they stop giving people DSL in Tobago because the backbone internet capacity so limited. The fiber optic cable to the island damaged and nobody knows when it will be repaired.
Allyuh really talking about this same Tobago?
