My pet chickens went the same way. I was on holiday down south and I went to the market with the great grandmother and saw the cutest chicks selling for a dollar for one. I got two. I didn't ask permission to buy them. the adults didn't comment. They were thinking that with enough food and time they'd be fattened up enough for the pot. I did keep them till half grown then they went to live with a neighbour who had more space for them. I last saw them full grown and that day they entered the kitchen to get killed. The next day when eating my lunch my grandfather asked me how the food was. I told him it tasted good. He then told me I was eating my chickens.

domesticating edible and tuh ah greater extent farmed animals as pets, is ah decadent and affluent beligerancy, as opposed tuh de scrunting and needy, ah have seen dat in de slums of asia and africa, decades after ah left southern lagoons.
ah seen hungry chirren wid eyes big as moons and food bowls as dry as de sahara, some fainting, oddahs trembling an barely standing, who in dey wildest dreams, cyar imagine ah piece ah meat......(ah used tuh do volenteer humanitarian work fuh CARE)
