Lord almighty...and I just bought a new HP Laptop a couple of months ago.
Anyone following the WebOS revival currently being done by HP?
Some huge news out today: All HP computers built in 2012 will come with WebOS installed (clicky).
Indeed. All HP PCs will have WebOS... just think about that. Every single one of them, so if Kamla decides to order HP again, we will have thousands and thousands of computers in Trinidad running WebOS next year. You'd think Leo Apotheker, HP's newest CEO, would want to save a bit of thunder for his March 14th event. Instead, the man continues to unleash stentorian quotes with unabashed candor like today's claim that "HP has lost its soul." He's also making bold proclamations about every HP PC being able to run WebOS and MIcrosoft Windows as an integrated experience in 2012 -- a move the company hopes will create a "massive platform" to attract those all important developers.
That's not the best of it. There's apparently more 'big news' to come at a March 14th event by the HP CEO.
On top of all that, the BBC calls February 9 just the "starting gun," because Apotheker's "secret answer" and "vision of what HP is capable of in the future" will come on March 14, where he'll try to pull together HP's vast product portfolio into a cohesive narrative. According to Apotheker, HP's size is its "basis of strength," and no other company sells everything from servers to phones the way HP does.WebOS is coming hard and fast, ladies and gentlemen. Buckle up.It's been a few months since Leo Apotheker took the top spot at HP following the Mark Hurd debacle, and it sounds like he's got some big plans for the company -- speaking to the BBC, he says he hopes "one day people will say 'this is as cool as HP,' not 'this is as cool as Apple.'"

Poverty does not necessarily bring sadness any more than money brings happiness.
HP has now discontinued WebOS operations.

OK. But how many applications are written for WebOS? Of all traditional PCs in the market, why produce WebOS programs when Windows is almost universal?
That said, I can see the rationale of getting out of smartphones and tablets. WebOS cannot compete with iOS, Android and even Blackberry OS or Win7. But dey selling of their PC business? dey mad or wah? I can't understand why they selling off a market leader position.
Man is the measure of all things. Happiness is finding one's own measure.
"Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. They're doing like IBM...no retail/consumer products...make more money in enterprise support sector...

HP is making WebOS available as Open Source software
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2011/111209xa.html?mtxs=rss-corp-news
HP today announced it will contribute the webOS software to the open source community.
HP plans to continue to be active in the development and support of webOS. By combining the innovative webOS platform with the development power of the open source community, there is the opportunity to significantly improve applications and web services for the next generation of devices.webOS offers a number of benefits to the entire ecosystem of web applications. For developers, applications can be easily built using standard web technologies. In addition, its single integrated stack offers multiplatform portability. For device manufacturers, it provides a single web-centric platform to run across multiple devices. As a result, the end user benefits from a fast, immersive user experience.
“webOS is the only platform designed from the ground up to be mobile, cloud-connected and scalable,” said Meg Whitman, HP president and chief executive officer. “By contributing this innovation, HP unleashes the creativity of the open source community to advance a new generation of applications and devices.”HP will make the underlying code of webOS available under an open source license. Developers, partners, HP engineers and other hardware manufacturers can deliver ongoing enhancements and new versions into the marketplace.
HP will engage the open source community to help define the charter of the open source project under a set of operating principles:HP also will contribute ENYO, the application framework for webOS, to the community in the near future along with a plan for the remaining components of the user space.
- The goal of the project is to accelerate the open development of the webOS platform
- HP will be an active participant and investor in the project
- Good, transparent and inclusive governance to avoid fragmentation
- Software will be provided as a pure open source project
Beginning today, developers and customers are invited to provide input and suggestions athttp://developer.palm.com/blog/.
