The port forwarding should be done on the router.

On most of the recent linksys routers that I have encountered, you have to go to "Applications and Gaming" to setup port forwarding.

Setting up port forwarding depends on the model of the linksys router.

The above image is for a WRT610N linksys router.

Post the model number of the router and I am sure that one of us here can help.

Of course, to get into the router, you have to bring up a webpage and type "http://192.168.1.1".

The default user name and password would more than likely be:

      admin
      admin.

Now Amzz, let us say that the model is an E 3000.

Make sure that your relative setup the Night Owl DVR to allow the router to give the DVR a static internal address.

Most likely the instructions for this system will ask the user to setup two (2) port forwarding configurations.

One will be port 80 for viewing images from the cameras over the internet.
The other might be 5000 (in Lorex systems) for streaming video. It might be different for Night Owl.

Under the "Application Name" you could follow the Night Owl instructions.

      Under Start port use 80
      Under End port use 80
Leave the protocol as Both (This will give you both TCP and UDP)
Under "To ip Address", put the "static ip address" of the Night Owl DVR system.
Make sure and put a check mark on "enabled".

Most important, save the changes. There should be a button to do so.

Repeat the process for the other port, using the port number as instructed by the Night Owl DVR system.

Home here in Maryland, my Verizon FIOS Modem is also a router so I do all my port forwarding from there, since I do not have a separate Linksys router.

In Trinidad, my Flow modem is not a router, so I have to configure Port Forwarding on the Linksys Router.

If your camera is hooked up to the Linksys Router instead of the modem/router, I suspect that you may have to do the Port Forwarding from there.

I have never worked with a configuation that involves a modem/router, a separate router, and a surveillance system or surveillance camera.

If the modem/router has 4 physical network ports, I would try pluging the camera directly into one of those ports and try the port forwarding from there, based on Night Owls instructions.

To the lay person, the damn thing gets confusing when the word "port" is used to describe a physical connection on a router, modem, or switch, then the damn fools turn around and also use it to describe a "program" designed to open ah "virtual" door for an application to pass through.

      IT boy, or gorsh.

      http://portforward.com/english/route...outerindex.htm

That website may be able to help.

There are instructions specific to individual models of routers and I see that the Night Owl FS-8500 is one of the programs that has instructions written for it.

      Good luck.

are you sure TSTT isn't blocking the ports?

IIRC, when I had TSTT DSL, I had to call them and ask them to disable the firewall on my account (various programs like mIRC and P2P programs and such didn't work until I called them and asked them to disable the firewall at their end).

this was back before "Blink", so i donno. Worth a shot to call them anyway.

Could you please post the model number of the Night Owl system.

I will see if I they have a downloadable instruction manual so that I can take a look.

Also, if your relative can get hold of a USA Magic Jack number that they can use, they may be able to call the Night Owl support folks.

Could you please post the model number of the Night Owl system.

I will see if I they have a downloadable instruction manual so that I can take a look.

Also, if your relative can get hold of a USA Magic Jack number that they can use, they may be able to call the Night Owl support folks.

That model -- wtr54gs -- is the Linksys router.

Post the Night Owl surveillance system model number, so that I can see if the manufacturer has a downloadable instruction manual.

This is a screen shot for the WTR54GS Linksys router.

The instruction manual will state what ports to configure..

      Nice..nice.....

Sometimes, depending on the version of windows, or internet explorer that you are using, there is a setting in internet explorer called "view all websites in compatibility mode", that you have to check, to make sure that you see the images from these surveillance systems.
