In less than two (2) days,we will be made aware as to how the present government intends to earn revenue and expend our financial resources for the next year.They are going into this exercise with a depressed global economy with the experts not knowing for sure when/if there will be a recovery.

Accordingly,what are your thoughts on what can be expected?

I hope that this will not denigrate into a shouting match with political party operatives hijacking it.
Thank you.
Canadian exploration company has drilled a new well and found possible oil deposits at Moruga.

Calgary-based Parex Resources Inc said its Firecrown-1 well, the first of three Trinidad exploration wells planned this year, reached a total measured depth of 8,701 feet on June 14.

Based on the interpretation data, the well encountered "potential hydrocarbon-bearing sandstones with oil shows", the company said in a statement.

Parex expects to have a service rig move onto the Firecrown-1 location to conduct a testing programme.

The drilling rig has been mobilised to the second Moruga Block location, Snowcap-1 which was spud on July 16.

Following the drilling of Snowcap-1, Parex plans to move the drilling rig from the Moruga Block to the Central Range Block.

An application for regulatory approval to drill a shallow horizon prospect was submitted in June 2009, the company said

SPECULATION--is rife that the Minister of Finance will reduce the subsidy on fiel prices in the upcoming budget. This subsidy applies to domestic and commercial users and there is also a subsidy to Power Gen . The impact of such a move will clearly have far reaching effects. Let's take WASA. They have q fixed rate for the product they supply but this will increase their costs. How will the state accommodate this turn of events? The other issue ois transportation costs. it is obvious that the publicly owned transport services can not keep pace with the demand. The proliferation of cars may see some reduction due to costs but what about the attendant costs in private transport/ What about the impact on goods?

Are we seeing a turn around in economic activity and what is the social fallout occasioned by such a move?

The issue of the fuel subsidy has been on the table for a couple years now as it is a serious charge on the treasury--does the new Government have the stones to do this?

Is Trinidad and Tobago ready for a roll back in living standards? How will this be interpreted by the populace in view of the fact that in Winston Dookeran's previous stint there was severe economic hardship as a result of policies implemented?

Bam- couple mornings ago--Inshan Ali--ah tink da is he name--from the bamboo nah--on mih TV talking about the Foreign Used Car INDUSTRY. I sit an listen to the interview and he repeat the description a few times--and I am more than a little bewildered. So he is an INDUSTRIALIST??

Leh mih see-- I go to Japan or an auction on the computer--buy a car-ship it to Trinidad--clean it--paint a few scratches and sell it at a mark up and I become and industrialist and that is an industry.

I bring mih own car and keep the mark up for myself--really--so I is an industrialist too den--becuz i was not prepared to pay them for that activity.

This categorization is in my view and obscene propaganda used to justify commercialization and mislead the public.

It also diminishes what an true industrialist is and leads many to believe that they are some kid of enlightened businessmen when they are nothing more than traders/hawkers.

'Unemployment likely up for 2010'

Trinidad and Tobago's unemployment figure is likely higher than what the current data shows, Central Bank Governor Ewart Williams said yesterday.

The latest official statistics showed the unemployment rate was just over five per cent at the end of 2009 and the pace of new retrenchments may have slowed at the start of this year, the Central Bank said in its Economic Bulletin July 2010, released in Port of Spain yesterday.

Following a press briefing at the Central Bank Tower, Williams said partial estimates for the first quarter of this year still had to be considered.

In addition, information from the Industrial Court, which receives notices of retrenchments by companies, suggested retrenchment exercises in the country were "not yet done", Williams said. Therefore, there is likely to be an increase in unemployment for the first quarter of 2010, he added.

In more positive news, the economic bulletin noted that the local economy expanded by 2.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2010. This was the second consecutive quarter of economic growth.

Energy sector GDP expanded by 5.5 per cent, but activity in the non-energy sector was flat in the first quarter. Construction activity picked up, growing by 5.1 per cent, but manufacturing and distribution contracted, the report observed.

Williams projected there would be growth in the energy sector over the next six to 18 months, but suggested the non-energy private sector was waiting on the upcoming national budget to see if it would contain any fiscal incentives.

With regard to CLICO, Williams said the insurance company was continuing payments to policyholders on a staggered basis after it received $3.1 billion from the previous government in March. Williams said a decision on how to solve CLICO's financial problems would likely be announced in the budget in four to six weeks.
======================
Reserve Requirement
All licensed financial institutions are required to maintain a certain percentage of the deposits that are placed with them in a non-interest bearing account at the Central Bank. By varying this percentage, the Central Bank influences the ability of the commercial banks to ‘create’ money.

The Central Bank has been reducing its reliance on the Statutory Reserve Requirement as a major tool of monetary policy management. In October 2003, the Central Bank announced the following phased plan for the reduction of the reserve requirement.

* Phase 1 (a four percentage reduction in the reserve requirement from 18% to 14% was effected on October 22, 2003 );
* Phase 2 (a three percentage reduction in the reserve requirement from 14% to 11% was effected on September 10, 2004 );
* Phase 3 (a two percentage reduction in the reserve requirement from 11% to 9%). The implementation of this final phase has been deferred pending the existence of the appropriate economic conditions.
What We Do
The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago undertakes many functions in its day-to-day operations. In particular, the Bank's main responsibilities are to issue and redeem currency; maintain monetary and financial stability; act as banker to the government as well as the commercial banks and protect the external value of the TT

With all the noise going on and all the feel good talk, with light, camera and action business people starting to bawl, kind of quick I would say, the economy stagnant while the PP playing in water and taking every chance to make the seven o clock news. Businesses in Chaguanas are not doing good, but Jack keeps boasting about how these Indian people out there love him so, well if they don't get some cash coming in soon that love not going to last :D
Tunapuna businesses at a standstill, business is Couva is also very slow, while they all seem to be waiting on the government to get going, I wonder how long before this slight grumblings start to turn into big noise, and they start to ask back for their votes and financial support :D
