Now that the tragedy of the Manning administration is behind us the PNM must now demonstrate in a clarion manner its willingness to learn from the debacle of the past decade in office and, demonstrate a willingness to inculcate a mode of operation different to the one which is currently practiced. It is absolutely necessary for this party to demonstrate it’s willing to embrace new ideas and new ways of doing things. It must also once and for all address the ubiquitous view that the party is a monolithic organization and has become insensitive to the pulse of the people. The inevitable replacement of the Manning legacy must be replaced by a vision which represents an appreciation of the need that this party needs to be more people oriented.

It is the ubiquitous view that the victory of the PP bespeaks a statement against Manning rather, than a vote against the PNM. What ever our position on this issue we must not allow it to obfuscate the clarion and possibly chronic failure on the part of the PNM hierarchy to exercise restraint on its leaders. This perpetual failure of the PNM leadership to act expeditiously on the indiscretion of its political leaders demonstrated a diabolical lack of appreciation of the impact these indiscression had on the wider community and, simultaneously added credence to the view that the PNM is afflicted with chronic myopia and is unable to see beyond the confines of its party.

The PNM as a party must take full responsibility for its demise and engage in a period of intense introspection with the intent of rebuilding its image if it want to regain the confidence of the public which has been left disappointed by its shenanigans for far to long. What we have before us is a party lying comatose on the operating table of public opinion and, could die if those in charge of that party do not ensure a permanent amputation of the disease of arrogance and despotism which went untreated for far too long. This country needs a vibrant opposition, one that is capable of assuming the mantle of government should the need arise. The question is however, will the PNM accept this challenge.
