I know this is controversial one but I think the concept of national service is inherently a good idea. It however, should to be directed primarily toward the ‘black youth” I could say more but I refer you to Professor Cudjoe article : Crisis of the black youth and Cudjoe right about afro male youth published in today’s Guardian for now.Also, i voluntarily submit that i am also a " black" person with the hope of not being deemed a racist.

Some time ago I wrote the following:
Plight of the black youth.

Tools of varied forms lay idle on the ground.
Human frames drugged by endless wanton fun.
Fallow potentials, abilities and capabilities immersed in a repugnant, diabolical indifference of foreign prison cultures.
Is this the house some called aimlessness?
Aimlessly they subsist oblivious to the calamitous end of their shared indifference.
Rudderless ships rein- less horses, unusable tools.
Purposeless figures of mythological status.
Wandering Jews predestined to aimlessly meander through curses and blessings.
Aimlessly they wander through a labyrinth of indifference and bewilderment.
Still they wander, determined to retain their loathsome fate and the horror of their predicament.
Enslaved by perennial blindness they remain victims of myopic visions.
Still they rap
Still they chant
Still they dance to the music of their perpetual derision.
Still they lie idle on the ground.
