View Full Version : Does the UNC-A want Ramesh
A hear Ramesh volounteering his services to the UNC-A. but do they want him ?
WITH STEPHEN Cadiz sitting right behind him, former UNC Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj yesterday positioned himself one step closer to possibly leading the newly formed UNC Alliance by volunteering his services to the party and saying he was going to help it win the November 5 elections.
Addressing a 600-strong crowd that braved rain and mud at the Samaan Tree Recreation Ground, Aranjuez, Maharaj said that he had come to the decision to “re-enter” politics in the face of the prospect of another Patrick Manning-led administration.
“I have decided to throw my weight behind the UNC in order to make it stronger to win the General Election,” Maharaj told the cheering crowd that had gathered for his second, self-styled “Unity Consultation.”
..........................
And the big question on everybody’s mind was whether one such decision would be the matter of the leadership of the Alliance.
Stephen Cadiz, head of Yestt and Alliance member, made a surprise appearance on Maharaj’s platform yesterday, lashing out at the divisive forces at work in the Opposition parties.
“Big men playing games,” he declared, saying egos had resulted in the fractured state of the parties and calling those responsible “selfish” and “disappointing.”
Asked by Newsday whether he would back Ramesh as leader for the Alliance, Cadiz side-stepped the question, saying he was backing Ramesh in whatever “supportive role” he was offering. He said such a question would be one for the Alliance council to consider. Maharaj said that his decision to intervene in the current political landscape was not an easy one given the fact that his lucrative legal career would have to once more take a back-seat.

Manning killed Ramesh's future with his revelation that Ramesh conspired with the PNM, and brought the UNC down. That is an unforgivable sin. Whether it is true or not, it seems to work against Ramesh as he is not showing any interest in contradicting the charges or asking Manning to prove it. A request for Manning to prove it is Ramesh's only way out of the political mess he created for himself and from which he is now trying to extricate himself. But Manning is smarter than that, as he has the means to fabricate any lie and prove it. Don't mess with fire if you do not have the means to extinguish it. The best thing for Ramesh is to volunteer his services at the lowest levels to any party that will accept it, and leave well alone as a lesson in politics 101.

...here is a man, devoid of any credibility whatsoever, who has failed, often frequently, at everything he 'touched'...and he ran the entire socio-political gamut of T&T...I guess it's fitting that he write his political epitaph back into the folds of the UNC with the man he loves to hate....plus ça change, plus ça reste le même....

I think once again RLM is making another bad decision .
Unless the COP collapses before the elections , all indications are the UNC is going to be badly wounded after the results are final .
Having said the COP needs to keep its members in check with regards to making statements on their own accord and whether it is in line with COP official view .
Left unchecked this can affect the COP negatively .
JP, I know you are a RLM supporter but you also said you like COP. So with this decision by RLM, who are you supporting? COP or Ramesh?

I think that Ramesh would be a good addition to the UNC-A.
Once he is endorsed by the leadership council, there shouldn't be a problem.
He was a very good AG, one of the best if I may say so, and he has what it takes to bring the UNC-A back into the corridors of power.

Frank speaking I don't believe one word Ramesh has to say. This whole thing smells like a vie for power. He sees the opportunity to finally head the UNC and he's going for it. Unity? If he really wanted Unity he would sit down with Panday and convince him to step aside.

"I" can only become "we" for Ramesh when he feels deep within his heart a love for the nation instead of only himself. For that to happen, he has to first become a servant of ALL the people, and love it immensely.

Yesterday this fella from Sangre Grande got on the microphone and claimed he had the same dream for about 5 days or something. He dream that if or because (or something so) Mr Dookeran does not unite he will be shot to death. You could hear the expression on people's faces over the radio -------> :o
Now if I did dream something like that last week, all today I woulda be debating whether to make it public or not. People taking this "Unity or Death" thing too serious.

The UNC and Ramesh deserve each other. Is he not the one who got the UNC out of government in the first place?
He has demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will do whatever it takes to fulfill his own agenda, and that he is prepared to sink the boat if he is not in charge.
If he had not sunk his own government, the UNC would not be in opposition. If the UNC was not in opposition, the COP would not exist...
I am simply amazed at how short memories are...

This is truly a comical situation. I am waiting to see Panday's reaction, because just last week he lick him up for the meeting on Sunday. Now a week later Ramesh is throwing his support behind the UNC - A? Is he deaf or stupid? And he is willing to serve at any level? If he is not chosen as a candidate he will work in all the consituencies? How desperate can you get? This is a naked cry for attention and an obscene, but ineffective, grab for power and the limelight. Until he can give a proper explanation for 2001 he should not be entertained.

Like you forgetting what happened a couple years back or what....as Dr. Hamid Ghany righteously said and I have said it before....Is Ramesh who brought down the UNC in the first place......when Panday has expelled him from the party, Ramesh was the man who exposed Panday by talking about a secret London Bank Account and everything fell apart afterwards....a man who cause yuh to spend 4 days in jail and now you want him around you???? Never happen....If I was the UNC-A I would keep him out.

I realize that this man is anxious to get back into politics in Trinidad (regardless of what he says about making lucrative sacrifices with his personal career.... yeh right); but why oh why does RLM have to paint himself as 'the second coming'. Does he not know that Trinidad and Tobago will survive with or without him.
The man appears to be nothing more than an opportunist, while others were paying their dues, choking on crime etc. he was 'out and about'; now all of a sudden he is ready to come back and save T&T.

Yesterday, Panday expressed enthusiasm about Maharaj’s return to the UNC fold.
“I am exceedingly happy to hear that,” he said.
“I welcome him with open arms.”
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar also welcomed the move, but spoke in general terms.
“The doors and windows of the UNC are open to everyone who shares the vision of the UNC Alliance—which is to remove the PNM and bring back good governance,” she said.

Sadiq was part of the original Gang of 4 .However he failed to join RLM , Sudama and Maraj when they had no choice but to leave the UNC .RLM then went on to form TU .
Sadiq at no time associated was with TU in any form or fashion.
I find it amazing that a man as intelligent as RLM would take basket from Baksh and leave the UNC .
IMHO , RLM biggest 2 mistakes were :
1. Consulting with the PNM after being forced out of the UNC (For opposition supporters that is a big NO NO )
and
2. Returning to a Panday led UNC ( He lost a lot of credibility there .If he had the patience , he probably could have been been better positioned today, rather than his present potentially embarrassing dilemma.)

But he not desperate enough to hand over unconditional leadership of the UNC .
I suspect he may be thinking after the election , he would disband the UNC and form a new party .The leader of that party will be Mikela Panday .

Sure. The main ones I have an issue with are Panday, Ramesh and Jack. Mostly Panday. Many others I am pretty much neutral to, and personally I'd like to have seen Kamla take over and refresh the party or join the COP. Even Jack and Ramesh I don't really care if they want to be in the party or not. Even Panday if he want to be in the party. But when Panday in the driver's seat - UNCA yuh lose meh support. I don't suppose you may recall when Panday was supposedly stepping aside and letting Dookeran take over, I was one of those saying the party was about to bounce back and easily win the 2007 elections. Panday decided he not having that, make life hell for Dooks, tell the man to take he jahaaji bundle and go, and take back control. Panday, yuh lose meh support since then. If COP unites with a Panday led UNCA, chances are I might not vote.

Keep cuss bud Achong and his wife maybe he will then go an cuss up a Iman or a priest as he did the Hindu pundit, I see they calling for Ballot box Atherly also to move over to COP, it sure strange that these are the same COP people that was saying look what he do, look how dem PNM people does get on, now they can show their faces in the COP and all is well, anyway if the COP can entertain the likes of racist people like Hulise and Devant I guess they are all at home with each other
