Basically solar sails are pushed by the sun's photons like a sailboat is pushed by the wind, the force is miniscule but in zero gravity , and over time great velocities can be built up for no cost at all.
Mastering this technology might be the only way for man to travel between stars and across the cosmos with our currant level of technology .
