With so many native indians coming to the twin islands....is gharba celebrated amoungst hindus around Navratri time ( the second one) in Trinidad?

I know at UWI the Hindu Society holds their annual Garba. Its lotsa fun with every1 dressing up and dancing and really having a fun time.

did you all know that this dance is performed by Gujurati married women and it's described as the dance of fertility and it's held in autumn / fall? :)

Oh gosh a fertility dance with a bunch of young people. :lol:
I know at weddings to they have a garba before the ceremony. Went to one in NY.

"The origins of the Garba seem to be a tribal dance revolving around a hunt; later it was transformed into an agricultural ritual dedicated to the goddess Ambika. Today it is a social dance at all levels of society. In essence, it continues to be a fertility dance."

For allyuh in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana USA.
Loyola University, Chicago, IL has events for the next 3 weeks celebrating Divali (Deepavali). Last Friday was a punjabi dance party with bhangra and gharba dancing (with sticks)!
I will get a list of activitites they will be having to celebrate Divali!

Oh yeah. There are a lot of Gharba dance venues celebrating Navratri, Dusheera ( Vijaya Dashimi) and continuing into Divali.... all over the States and Canada.It's fun!
