I actually like wht I do right now.
It's not a sit at a desk type of job and I have flexible hours.
I've been thinking abt the jobs tht I can get when I graduate and besides the higher pay am also looking at would I really like being in an office in a managerial post.

yuh was going and say a "blow" take yuh mind out of the gutter young man   :D
Any way, I have always laid emphasis on the quality of my work and it does not matter what the job is. For me there is nothing more satisfying than knowing at the end of day I did my job and I did it well. I have and will always maintain that next to your children, the way you do your job is a reflection of who you are.
spam again!!!!
job satisfaction - hmmmmmmmm......... an understandable boss, compensation for hard work, flexible working hours, promotion by merit instead of seniority....
As a young person i'm really lookin for some good experience......which i am getting :) .....in my line of work, if i have good experience i could get alot of pj's
(vaio i so want to crack now but i shall resist   )

Look how they spam!
Yes I agree with having and understanding Boss and supervisors.
My previous supervisor and I never got along and things got so bad I considered a transfer. I hated HR and senior Bosses becos they did nothing to help. The person wud shout and bray at me etc in front of members of the Public and clerical staff members . They just moved the problem eventually without fixing it.
I wonder if the Govt service wud ever have promotion by merit than by seniority. Then many of the older people wud get left back.
I know people who wud work all their life and not get promoted becos of their seniority or lack of.
In my workplace within the past few yrs we have had a lot of young persons coming in( with bad working habits but thts another story) so therefore the others behind them wud have a long wait for promotion.
i really believe that i shld get a promo based on my performance.....and in the gov't service there are alot of non-wokers....i come in here and can do twice what they supposed to do in no time....
for real vaio......on a serious note.......i've seen gov't 'non workers' take a whole week to do something that takes an hour or so.......they so waste ah time :x
i think its because of the lack of a proper Perf App system....if ppl got increments based on their performance....they wld work harder...they don't ....they get it based on PSA negotiations with the CPO.....
i think alot of them don't really care about getting increases since they satisfied about the fact that they get to leave early and stuff like that
but not all of them don't work...look at me, i am hard workin and get my job done at the end of each day...
^^ part of my job satisfaction comes from being able to browse the net once in a while... ;)

Are people really supposed to be satified in thier jobs, or is the most you can hope for plain contentment ? I have seen people change jobs looking for greener pastures and end up just as miserable in their previous job. Can we ever truly be happy to have to get up each day and come to work ?

We have performance appraisals with recommendations for increments. Without tht appraisal I don't get an increment.
My previous supervisor chose to give me bad reports and I said to hell with tht. Everyone knew he was personally attacking me and wasn't giving a genuine report.
I am a Public Servant and I treat the people whom I serve as best as I can. But no one is going to come to me and give me attitude and feel I wud help you to the best of my ability. Alot of people come in and look down at us 'lowly' Gov't workers.
I get my job done becos if I leave it today I wud still have to do it tmrw. I work alone with no assistant although everyone else in my section has one. But I still get the job done.

i find i am meeting a lot of prople who jump from job to job because they are perpetually 'unhappy'. what makes you unhappy in your current job?
i am unhappy in my current job with the slow pace of things..the process takes too long for things to happen...
another reason ppl are unhappy adn may be the biggest reason is their bosses..most ppl leave their jobs because of their supervisors....actually there was something last year about this in the newspapers...

People are unhappy with their lives so then tht seeps into being unhappy in the workplace.
My ex supervisor had issues at home and saw me as an outlet to take out some of his frustration.
Many people are in a job just to make a few $$$ to survive. Find something you like doing as a job and you wud have less unhappy people.
^^ i think i wld switch jobs based on salary...that may satisfy me to an extent...

a great salary and something you like doing is double wammy
But I read earlier this year tht article abt supervisors affecting the staff turnover. About tht same time was when I was having problems with my supervisor so I contemplated cutting it out and passing it t the higher ups.
The thing is am not to willing to leave my job becos of Job security right now. Becos If i leave and go work for private company no telling when I cud be let go. and working on a yr to yr contract is a scary thought.

i left my job last year because of my supervisor...i went home...if i am not satisfied in my job i will leave....but there are people out there who do not have that option....
i don't mind contracts....it pays better....some satisfaction in itself...

Vaio you probably have backup to walk out of a job. Meaning you have a husband who's working etc. and wud support you financially.
I can't do tht and same with the contract work. It wud pay more but there's no job security.
I wasn't going to leave a job tht I like becos of my stupid supervisor. I took my complaints straight to the Directors. They moved him. If they didn't I wud have asked for a transfer and raised more fuss than I already did.
Three things:
Doing work that benefits my fellow man,
Having adequate resources (including a good supporting staff and workplace culture) to enable such work
Getting the chance to do [h]ardcore and [e]xtreme things. I want excitement!

When yuh doing yuh regular skylarking at work and yuh see the boss coming, and den you start to work yuh butt off to impress him, that is satisfaction.

yep welll...we lived on one salary....and sometimes complaining to a higher authority does not help in any way...in fact it makes the situation even worse..... :|

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. When I first started to work here, I loved it! The rush of getting the seemingly impossible done by ridiculous deadlines. Now however, I get more advisory/consultative work and the job satisfaction is missing. I guess I like to be in the thick of things, out there negotiating a case, arguing a point rather than pushing paper in an office. So, the most important thing for me right now is getting the right type of experience. I dont believe in wasting time hating my job, if I cant deal with whatever crap thats the problem, I leave and move on.
