View Full Version : Is it dead?

I just spilled some Lipton on my Dell and tried the best that I could to dry it off with paper towels and the 'cool' setting on a hair dryer after taking the battery out.
My neighbour says that I should let the fluid drain out but I have fears that it's dead.
What else should I do?

It's not dead. Give it a day or two in a cool dry space. Rest some silica gel sachets on the tabletop and put the laptop upside down on the silica.
In future though, when you spill liquid on electronic equipment, use a vacuum cleaner to get the moisture OUT, rather than using a fan to drive moisture further INTO the componets, nooks and crannies.

Some keyboards are liquid resistant but you could never be sure. Give it a few good days of drying as the key well areas may not have enough ventilation. If you have sugar with the tea it might be a different story, most likely you will end up with a sticky board but worse if it gets into the key mechanics. Hopefully, it did not short out the electronics before removing the battery.
Best of luck.

I'm getting a boot prompt to select an OS but the WiFi's working after nearly 6 months with the replacement DVD drive non-functional... :blink
I'll deal with that tomorrow...
