Today each and everyone of us who are Law abiding Citizens and Legal Residents of TNT should give unrelenting to support to Police Superintendent Chandrabhan Maharaj for reminding us ,by his the courage of his convictions, that the vast majority of our police officers are decent and upright citizens who has a white hot desire to do their jobs without fear or favour and monetary considerations is not the driving factor in their being in the service of the country.
This senior police officer has refused to accept a position because of alleged corruption in the ranks and he has directed these allegations against some of the police officers which if proved true will be dealt with swiftly and forcefully by the Commissioner of Police and Mr. Martin Joseph and the Ministry of national Security and the Attorney General's Office.
We assume that when a Senior Office makes such an allegation he has evidence to back up his allegations after all that is his business to collect evidence and make strong air tight cases against criminals regardless of who or where they crop up.
At this time it is my hope that the responsible press, the opposition, the anti-crime groups will be unrelenting in their support for this officer who has the courage of his decency and good conscience to come forward so please,do not let this officer down like the NEW YORK CITY police officers did to
Frank Serpico.
Well done officer.
TNT Republican,Fearless as ever.
Check out Frank Serpico's website
http://www.frankserpico.com/bio.html
Frank joined the New York City Police Department on September 11, 1959 at the age of 23. He was a police officer for 12 years, during his last several years on the force, his attempts to report police corruption to his superiors in the department fell on deaf ears. After a harrowing interrogation by U.S. Customs officials upon returning from a European vacation, Frank finally decided to go to the New York Times. A New York Times expose was subsequently written on police corruption in the New York City Police Department which prompted then Mayor John Lindsay to appoint Judge Whittman Knapp to head the Knapp Commission to investigate the pervasive problem of corruption in the New York City Police Department. Frank was shot in the face during a "buy and bust" operation on February 3, 1971 and later that year testified in front of the Knapp Commission regarding his ordeal in trying to report police corruption within the ranks of the NYPD. Many people believe that Frank was set up by the police in order to silence him.

Frank's story was documented in a New York Times bestseller written by Peter Maas which went on to sell over 3 million copies and an Academy Award nominated movie which helped launch the acting career of Al Pacino. The book Serpico was recently republished in the U.S. and England.

After being shot, Frank moved to Europe to recuperate and spent a decade there, living, traveling and studying. He returned to the States in the early eighties and has been living quietly in the mountains of New York State, studying and lecturing on occasion to students at universities and police academies and sharing experiences with police officers who are currently going through similar experiences. Frank has studied various cultures and speaks a number of languages, he has studied animal and human behavior, alternative medicine, music, art, literature and philosophy among other disciplines.

He sculpts and has recently been studying African drumming and Argentine tango. In 1997, he testified at the New York City Council regarding legislation to institute an Independent Audit Board to review incidences of police corruption and brutality in New York City in the hope of getting legislation passed that will make it easier for honest officers to come forward and tell the truth. Frank continues to speak out against corruption and injustice and has recently started a production company that focuses on projects that progress strong concepts of ethics.

It takes alot of guts to do what Mr Maharaj did,its sad though that not everyone in the police service condone what is taking place and do not have the guts.
Though Mr Maharaj's guts is appaulable, I do not see anything coming out of this investigation, this is just another case of himself invetigating himself and its sad to say that for proper cleansing to take place in the police service they need to start with the executive itself

Dear Solachica, thanks for your reply however I hasten to add that I do not know that Supt.Maharaj knows or is aware of Frank Serpico.
I drew the analogy because I knew of what Frank Serpico did and was concerned that this officer may suffer like Frank Serpico did.
Now Frank Serpico was able to go to the Powerful New York Times and had them investigate his allegations thoroughly and then they ran the article and the US Government immediately launched an investigation via the Knapp Commission ( we need to have investigations lead by a few members of Parliament comprising of government and opposition senators and members of parliament)and several NYC police officers were taken down.
I drew the comparison that we have ,in Supt.Maharaj,a " Frank Serpico " in our midst!
There are many, many, more like him who are watching this scene played out and if he is right and this investigation is handled properly and the criminals in uniform caught many, many, more "Frank Serpicos and Supt.Maharaj's " shall be coming out of the shadows to bring the criminals in uniform down.
Please, let us call, write ,email and hound our members of parliament and the media to get on this case and do not let the ball drop and if this is as the Supt. alleges lets us join the fight to take these criminals in uniform down.

Rivers you do have a view which says ," let us be cautious and wait for the results of the Investigation before we get too far ahead of ourselves !"
It is a position well worthy of merit because we may find ourselves so desperate for some great break through in this war on crime that we could be very gullible and fall victim to what could be just a war among crooked cops in the police service.
I honestly do not believe this to be the case.
I honestly believe that this police officer is sick and tired and fed up with corruption and graft in the police service and the country as a whole and he has decided to do something about it because he is l,ike most police officers ,honest and law abiding citizens who simply want to do the job which they signed up for!

rivers

then why didn't he take the job, and work to stamp out this corruption? After all he would be the boss.

He did a good thing by writing that letter, but I'm still trying to figure out the part where he wrote that he was "born black by mistake."

I think this guy is the real deal in that he truly stands by what he's saying without another agenda other than to highlight the corruption in the police force.
I dont think its as easy as being the boss rivers, when the system and processes currently in place leave u with your hands tied and after everything is said and done there is someone with even greater authority to veto further investigation.
Besides, I think he's tired and definitely jaded. Perhaps he just want to enjoy his retirement after a long, hard, thankless career in crime fighting. Its our loss really.

I want to think he did .(No I do not know him personally ).I think he spent many sleepless nights before making his decision to go public . He had to put a lot of thought into it .He had to analyze it from all angles and predict the repercussions before doing so .

JPERSAD...have you done anything to personally support this Hero ?

Of course me an my family have.

WE at our office have passed the Hat an made a reasonable collection and sent it to him via a well known attorney ( neutral fellow ) to his attorney to help with the cost of his attorney.
We have signed a petition to the Prime Minister which in effect said that the Prime Minister needs to do all which he can wiithin the Law to allow this man the opportunity to present his case and so encourage others to come forward.

The petition was signed by church members ( absolutely no politicians ) and handed to the Prime Minister personally.

Now what have you done ,sir .beyond talk?

Dancerboy....you have no idea what the prime Minister is capable of doing nor do you know what he said he is going to do and are you so blind as not to see that he Gave the Superintendent what he asked for ?

Gun permit is of no use to the man because how many people who have guns in America ( and know how to use it well ,like Cops) get smoked every week in the USA ?

How many of them in TNT who have guns ( bad men and gansters ) who get tacked and whacked ?

How do you know what security arrangements the Ministry of national security has made with respect to teh Superintendent ?

We here in TNT are not like the " publicity " seeking American police ,sir. We do not " forecast our shots!"

So,why don't you come on down and see for yourslef eh ?

I could not help but mention: Why is it some of you can only comment by saying someone idea will not work ?

Why don't you come up with a better one ?

Is it easier for the mind devoid of ideas to just say," It will not work ?"

Just a thought ! Maybe a fellow like CITIZEN or JPERSAD could help me to understand that kind of thinking ? ( Mot interested in the person just the thinking!

HARRY WILLIAMN, the publicity police officers in AMERICA solves moer than 75% of their crimes. Remeber the criminal who was arrested in TRINIDAD, for murder in the AMERICA more than twenty-five years ago. And u know why the gov't is allowing all these extraditions, beacause in TRINIDAD the case will take forever. And there is a 99.9% chance the defendants will walk. DANCERBOY

dancer: Can we agree on this: " Solving of a crime is of no practical use to the dead ,dying ,raped, disfigured, robbed and molested victim."

Preventing the Crime is of excellent and practical use to the intended victim or victim .....again,telll me what we have here dancer man and I know yuh could dance real good but yuh eh go " dance" and " tip toe " around those facts!

JPersad...I do not smoke but you probably do with all the smog yuh have to breather...poor fella ...come back home man ...it really sweet here!

You see we cannot try " American " ideas even though we may use some of their techiniques with respect to crime scence investigation ( and we also develope our own ) and compiling of criminal data bases and profiling etc but we do not intend to make crime a business like over there where it is a big business on both sides and only the " little illiterate criminal ends up in jail ( shades of Scooter Libby ???) with the conivance of the Public Defender and my gosh " American is well noted for executing and locking up innocent people that is how they solve their crimes ( project INNOCENCE has freed how many minorities to date ? Why are the minorities the majorities in US Prisons ? ) Just a few question marks or " asteriks ?" ( shades of baseball now Mitchel mouth open and tory jump out they President calling for an end to it because white superstars are named and when the black barry Bonds was named he was silent ) that is how all yuh does solve crime ?
We have a TENET in our law which in effect says: It is better that 100 guilty people ezcape justice than one innocent person is convicted and punished.

HARRY WILLIAMN, U R VERY ANTI-AMERICAN, or only ANTI-TRINIDADIANS who live in AMERICA. HARRY, WHY did the TRINIDAD gov't paid the professor M. When the gov't has a case they get a QC from ENGLAND, HOMES to build the job goes to CANADIANS, RAILWAY to build is foreigners. NOW the gov't is advertising overseas also for a COP. And the 'SUPT' SAY HE ONLY TALKING TO THE FBI OR SCOTLAND YARD. SO WHO SHOULD U BE CRITICIZING SIR ? DANCERBOY

Dancer it is so sad when an intellignet gentleman like I think you are begins to go down such a road. I assure ,dancer,it is not the right road. It is a very dangerous road which only fools go down and you are not a fool so please, respect yourself man,do not go down that road.
The road I am speaking of is where you lable a person " Anti -American,Anti-Trinidadians living in America etc.

You know, deep within your mind that you are simply " knee jerk " reacting to the facts of the well thought out POST dancer. Now if we stick to the facts then dancer you know we shall arrive at the right conclusion which is what I have laid out.

Now out of the greates respect for you as a person I shall answer your charges as best I know how.

(1) I am not Anti-American but I am extremely Anti-the negative American influence upon my beloved country. You are also and you know it.
( quoting hemist...I do not want to write a novel ) so I have to be brief. You left TNT when ? If you left TNT in the 1960's you must know the peace and security of person which we had in this country until the poison of negative Amrican influence drop in here. did you used to see drug addicts all over the place and people having sex and kissing and carrying on in the Public ? Even thieves had respect for human life and at Christmas times they took a rest but today's criminals has imitated and continues to try to imitate the yankee criminals and you know exactly all the negative American influences which i am talking about. Need we go to Iran where the Aytatollas took very radical measures to remove that influence from their society ( be their methods right or wrong ?)
(2) The people of TNT did not go to America for help it is the Prime Minister who misguidedly did that and it came to no avail as you can see.
The fellow came down here and went to the Police and ask the POLICE what to do about crime then write a doltish report collect we money and gone...another rip off by the thieving yankees.
(3) In our country we allow everyone to bid on Contracts hoping to get the best bid for the job and if the Canadians place the best bid what do you wnat the Government to do? Close out everyone else ?
(4) Railways: if another country has the expertise to build railways why give it to a local firm with no experience ? Come on you are sounding silly since in America Venezuela owns and operate quite a few docks in large ports! The yankees are selling their highways to foreign corporations so ?
(5) if the yankees and europeans did not have this insatiable appetite for cocaiane then we will not have ahd a drug problem and we will not have had corrupt police officers who did not resist the huge paydays offered by drug dealers ....Mr. Maharaj asked for an INDEPENDENT investigator and the Government gave him who he asked for because the FBI is an outside entity so what ? Does that mean we want to be yankees ?
I see it as we area People who will go to extraordinary lenghts to obtain Justice.

The people of New Orleans trusted their Government and they dies for it maybe if they had allowed Venezuela,Cuba and TNT to help save those people they will have been alive today but of course the yankees always think they are the : saviours of the world' but could not save their own people.
SO what now dancer man?

HARRY WILLIAMN, THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL RESPOND TO ANY OF YOUR POST. YOUR MIND IS ALREADY MADE UP AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE IT. " A MAN CONVINCED AGAINST HIS WILL IS OF THE SAME OPINION STILL. Here is my suggestion, GET RID OF THE AMERICAN INFLUENCE AND TRINIDAD WILL GO RIGHT BACK TO THE 1960'S. NO TELEVISIONS, NO ATM'S , NO COMPUTERS, OR ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT RETURNING TO THE GOOD OLD COLONIAL DAYS. DANCERBOY

Harry Williamn

Come on dancerman .....at your age you must remember the safety and the security of the " great olde days " when all you did fraid was douen and largabesse....when children were respectful and not making children and killing children and selling and smoking dope dancer.

But act your sense dancer man America did not give us ATM's and Computers and television and modern tehcnology ...modern technology is a collective effort of all the people in the world dancer and it is not an exclusive American Club!

Do no act like some weird and strange people on the Forum who can twist a fact right in to a hale feel eh ...but you need not do so dancer...so why are you trying to " twist " the stated facts ?
(1) I want all ( not some ) but ALL the negative influences from the USA,Canada and Britain to be removed from our TNT which will give our young people and their parents a chnace to rescue our young people from the clear path to crime and immorality and heartlessness and soulessness with which some of them are now afflicted ....where did they leanr about crack and mafia and killing people in cold blood dancer ?

From their teachers ? The calypsonians ? The Church ? Their parents ?

Did you ever read and study kemist post ?
He has been making some very cutting points about the cause of crime in our society the very crime which you say has made you afraid to come home to TNT ....read his post.
We welcome the 1960's even America welcomes the 1960's because there was no " Bin laden "!
