Yes I read it ytday and was shocked at how the hospital admin is not taking it more seriously by the laid back comments they made.
Poor woman.
i feel for that woman....i hope they find her baby...

1. where was the cctv
2. where was the door security that someone can simply walk out with a baby
3. where was the ward security to ask this lady who she was visiting, and to monitor patients on a maternity ward?
4. maternity ward in 2007 without locked doors and signing in and out visitors?
5. the next upgrade for Mt Hope, in addition to a more professional attitude towards medicine and patients, should be alarmed bedside cots for newborns. They are relatively inexpensive.
6. will probably get thunder for saying this but the mother left her baby with a total stranger. She got conned into thinking it was a nurse, I know, but many hospitals have a policy that you dont let the baby out your sight as a mother, except if it goes to ICU or into its alarmed cot.
It's sad, and I hope they find her baby, and lock the sicko away.
so, you gotta take the baby to the bathroom as welll.... :?

I not sure abt mt hope but I know in sando hospital there are no guards on each floor. They have the guards at the stairs downstairs.
Ent nowdays the babies are near their mother? Or they still have all the babies in cots in a nursery?
The public is being told to be on the lookout for a “a stockily-built, fair-skinned East Indian woman, approximately 25 years old, with a newborn infant of African descent, particularly if it is known that the woman was not pregnant.
.................................................. ...............................
I eh see how the woman could pass off the child as she own . Most likely she stole that child to give to someone else...........
also was this kidnapping random or deliberate ? the kidnapper just wander around untill she find a baby.....or was this specific baby targetted..... check with the child father I say.
chica, went to visit someone in mt hope recently, did not see a guard on the floor except on the entrance to the floors downstairs...

All crimes that involve children should result in the culprit being locked away from society for the rest of their lives.
I hope the find the baby and the culrpit or culprits get their just desserts. :(
i say check the father who in his past or who he might have even had on the side. i really hope they find him soon and safe

Actually Deedee, the kidnapper wore a jeans and a shirt and claimed to be a nurse who had not yet had time to change clothes before her shift. At least that's the story that was reported.

What is the importance and distinction of identifying the kidnapper as indian and the baby as black? A baby should be regarded as a baby.

Where you got the woman returned the baby?
Police got a tip from a 555 caller and they went and found the woman and child. She said she delivered tht baby in POS General.
The baby mother said she woun't be pressing charges against the kidnapper but she wud be suing the hospital.
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl ... =161238795 (http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_news?id=161238795)
The Express learned that the woman suspected of stealing the baby was taken for psychological evaluation at the hospital after she told the police that she had recently been pregnant and had lost her child.
According to police reports, around 9.30 a.m. yesterday police responded to calls which led them to a house at Oliver Trace, Mt D'or Road, Champs Fleurs, where they found a 24-year-old man and his female companion, 21, with a newborn baby.
The couple and the baby were then taken to the St Joseph Police Station where the couple were questioned.
Police say the woman claimed she had given birth to the baby last Tuesday at the Port of Spain General Hospital. Upon investigating, police found no records of the birth and the woman also had no registration documents. When the police enquired whether she was breast-feeding the baby, she claimed that she was not because she was not producing sufficient milk.
When the police pressed her further, the woman eventually admitted that she had stolen the baby from the Mt Hope Hospital.
i'm so glad he was found safe and sound. i really feel sorry for the lady as she lost her child but taking another is not going to help her and as we see put her in more hot water

I suspect is some big love triangle affair going on with them. She is not pressing charges on the woman. The baby's mother is going to take action against the Hospital though.
Solachica
11-21-2007, 12:11 PM
She changed her mind she wud be pressing charges now.
But I think she's doing tht on the advice of her lawyer. She can't sue the Hospital without having some kinda charge against the kidnapper to.
From wht I have seen...although not in such a case....like in industries...you have to sue all parties involved becos if you sue one and lost you cannot go sue another on the same charges. So this is why I think she changed her mind. :geek:

I hope a good lawyer takes this and jams Mt Hope so bad!
It's a crying shame that THIS had to happen before they thought of telling their security guards to do their job, and for Admin to buy some cameras and locks. Pathetic. I hope this lady 'takes them to the cleaners'.

Trinidad has so much money, so there is no excuse not to upgrade security, even an entire overhaul!!!
1. competent, visible security
You must have a proper contract with prescribed deliverables and codes of practice set by the hospital (not the security company themselves). Review these contracts yearly in the first instance, then we can see about extending tenures. Always some of the liability must be transferrable to the security company if there is no internal Mt Hope security. Government institution, therefore there must be some administrative input from the ministry!
2. CCTV
what to say again that hasnt been said before? CCTV on all ward entrances, corridors; intercom in the entrance to the mom and baby rooms.
3. visitors
biggest problem here because the same people that cussin Mt Hope now for slack security will be cussing them again for 'not being flexible' ..whatever that means. A maternity ward cannot support family and friends en masse. The health/security measure here requires a change in culture from local people. Only the spouse of the mother or the parents of the mother should be allowed 24/7 in the mom and baby areas. If there are visiting times, visitors must sign in and out, and a maximum of 3 visitors at the bed side at any one time, and this includes the 24/7 spouse/parents. That way the system sort of polices itself, and numbers are always kept miminal. You tend to have parents asking extended family to wait till they get home to see mom and baby. Much better anyway than the usual pappyshow.
4. staff
staff must wake up in the first instance. Cant have arbitrary people liming in maternity wards. Staff must have electronic IDs and the ward must have card reader operated doors. The woman was allowed to say she didnt yet change into uniform because the working culture of TT makes that a very believable excuse. Again, no standards, no codes of practice. Come on!! Staff must ask people who arent familiar and who arent at a bed, the reason for them being there......issue visitors' badges!! So many simple things and hopefully this most recent episode will get someone thinking at least. Staff must take pride in their jobs. They must want to make a difference. Stop the petty theft. Stop taking hospital supplies home.
5. Quality Assurance
Someone, some association, somebody must assess the security that will be enveiled with great pomp very soon. Check the system after 6 months, after a year, then every few months. Hire a security officer to implement the codes of practice. Stop the compromises, stop the 'ease meh up nah' attitude.
6. Responsibility
No one resigned, in fact there were a bunch of poor excuses from all quarters. Where did the buck stop? No one stood up and said, I say this is unacceptable, and I resign because of this. Justice has to be done, but justice must also explicitly be seen to have been done. Public perception.
This story is so sad, but they must use this as a way to buck up. They must!

thank god the child was found unharmed.
I personally think that the baby would be better off with that stranger instead of her unfortunate ignorant mother who have one set of different "Child Father". This little child would probably grow up to be a bandit now that he has been returned.

if the woman does or does not want to get married....that does not mean that the child wld grow up to be a bandit..... :x

if that is true i feel for her i really do but it does not change that she caused someone else the grief of losing their own baby as well. i hope she is given the proper care for her depression.

Post partum depression, yeah, ummhmmm.
Funny how women who actually have to work hard in third world countries away from Hello magazine and cable television dont ever get 'post partum depression. Pregnant, caring for toddlers and tilling the fields and taking care of their extended family. Funny how women in Sierra Leone and Iraq, and Afghanistan and Sudan get raped, pregnant then their babies cut out of the bellies and raped again, and dont get post partum depression.
Lock up this lady, dont give her mamby pamby excuses to get off, 'genetics', 'it's not her fault', 'give her a chance'.

Post partum is very very very important Falco of the male species. Don't turn yuh nose up at it just cause the average jane doh be in the media talking about how dey does want to slam de newborns into a wall for crying in their heads and making them feel like they going insane.
The more public u are the more attention you get so the celebs in Hello can afford to open their craw.
Also, no matter what if someone is willing to find a way to steal a baby from a hospital they will. Fake name and badge or get someone who working there to do it many many ways but it can be done is not a Trini thing.
