I remember back in the late 80s I got a Ford with computerised ignition (it was new in those days) and I used to get sudden accleration intermittently. I took it to the dealer twice and they could not find anythign wrong. Once I was drinving in NY and on the hiway it happened agin. I pulled on the side with neutral and the tach was showing 2500 revs. I switched it off and everything was normal on restarting. That was the last time it happened. That car gave me 12 years of the best low cost service. I always wondered if it was affected by stray radio waves screwing up the computer if it was not shielded properly.

Toyota is one of our major employers, and they just announced that they are shutting down the plant for a week ...to start;
and remember, these people do not have a Union to protect them....Oh Boy.

It would be very interesting to see how many Toyotas they sell in in March 2010. Even though Toyota is still very good I think people in general will be scared. The 2B$ loss might be an underestimate. :-(

I took my Sienna for servicing and the spare tire was missing. I asked them to check it because I got something in the mail saying the cable holding the tire might break causing the tire to drop (spare is held below vehicle). God I hope I did not cause any accident. Toyota is ordering me a new tire and assembly. This is very scary --- do not drive too close to a Sienna.

Ouch! I recently bought a brand new Corolla (Trinidad) and this is the second month and I'm hearing a noise when stopping. I called and made an appointment with them for this Saturday but in as much as I stand by Toyota, it really doesn't say much when 2 months down the line there is a possible manufacturer defect.

I still feel Toyota make good cars - even though I have no frigging idea what happened to my spare tire and worry I did not cause an accident.
Anyway, I read somewhere where someone complained about a Toyota car driving very rough and the dealer told the customer the car needs to be trained due to sophisticated equipment and the car was not trained properly - like a bad kid. Imagine that!

I hear ya, Trini. I've always wanted a brand new [black] Corolla and I believe in their vehicles over some of the more popular, generic brands. I remember asking the Sales Rep (although I went with intentions to purchase) "Why choose a Toyota over something like Nissan" - his response "Nissan is the ultimate poor man car" followed by resale value, dependability, etc.
I wonder if the dealer was the one in Trinidad? :P I love that response - shoulda be me he told!

"Why choose a Toyota over something like Nissan" !
Toyotas are more fun than Nissans .... especially when their gas pedals stick and they start to drive themselves.

Yeah, we term it "cruise control" in the manual.

Toyota found the cause for sudden acceleration after a 10 month intensive study - drivers mixing up the pedals.
Looks like Toyota drivers is a pack a arse! :-)
