With Valentines Day coming, thought I'd share this 'tit-bit'.

For those wanting to make a 'heart shaped' cake, but do not have a heart shaped pan.... no need to buy one if you own a small square pan, and a small round pan.

Simply bake two small cakes, one in the round, the other in the square.
Once they are cooled.... cut the round one in two
Place the square one diagonally on a large flat tray/cakeboard
Then place each half of the round ones at the diagonal corners

Voila, heart shape..... (use some of the icing or frosting to adhere the sections together), then decorate.

I have a heart shaped pan but when I didn't have one I used this method and it worked! Now where is that velvet cake recipe for Valentines SB? ;)

Brilliant idea Ms SB..... I do that for my daughter's birthday each year in Feb...... only this year it's going to be a football ( Rugby ball ) shape with two round cakes cut down the center, sandwiched together with almond frosting, covered with chocolate frosting..... butter cream and decorated with chocolate sprinkles and trim with whipped cream to make the marks of the ball.

Got to remember this one as last year my grandson had a football cake...his mother had to 'rent' a pan.

Oh, by the way, I also have a very creative one for a ....'school bus', it involves....using loaf pans, and just cutting the cakes to size.
