OVER the last decade and a half, a number of leading Jamaican businesses have been snapped up by Trinidadian companies as a result of their ineffective management, a hostile operating environment and under-capitalisation.

Does this indicate that Trinidadian companies are far better managed and employ better business practices than Jamaican ones? Is it a fact that once these beleaguered corporations are acquired they tend to go on and register better performances?

Seems like Trinidad and Tobago businesses are doing well.

Kudos to us!

I guess we are the economic leader of the Caribbean (even though the Dominican Republic has the largest economy), so we got something going for us.

Me ent know how brite it is to 'snap up' a company with US$900M in debt nah, but I will wait and see.

Scorpio, the deal will only be complete if the GOJ agrees to settle the debt first. Basically CAL really just wants the route rights so they can expand their flight network via kingston and mobay.

I don't know what the initial arrangement will be because although CAL will hire some of the current AJ staff, they do not want the Airbus airplanes the pilots and engineers are trained for. CAL wants to maintain a one-type Boeing fleet.

Look out for phase 3 soon, the inclusion of LIAT.

That just sucks but I hope that there was a rationalization before the offer was considered...
