Do you mean a VOIP ATA which connects to a router?

I use a VOIP ATA ( Linksys ) along with four cordless handsets. I am hooked up to a naked DSL ( dry loop ) and my Linksys is plugged into a port in my wireless router. I get all the features of a traditional phone plus some great features like voicemail in my e-mails, faxes in my e-mail. I can block callers ( telemarketers etc ) and I can setup my calls to ring simultaneously on 2 other phones. I can travel with my phone as long as there is high speed internet available in the location I am visiting and all my calls to home would be free. So, if I am visiting Trinidad I can take my phoen with me and never miss a call.

The best news is I pay $0, zip, nada for this phone. However, most people pay a tiny fraction of the cost of a traditional landline. My son pays $9.99 @ month for a similar system but he has unlimited long distance calls to anywhere in North America.
