Im thinking of getting my nieces a KINDLE for the Christmas-they are 10 and 8.
I was thinking that this is an excellent way for us to encourage them in reading more in a format that is more familiar to them than normal books.
Anybody have any advice or experience with this unit??

redman, the kindle isnt the only one out there..
i suggest researching the other products, I think sony has one and barnes and noble has one as well (not too sure...)
barnes and nobles one sold out
very nice idea for a present
Don't deny those kids the wonderful smell and feel of a new book.

I agree but it should bridge the gap thats there now.
Once they are reading they can get it as they like it.
But Ive always seen the benefits of my mother insisting that we read books not comics-comics were banned from our house.
But the kids today relate to a computer more now than the Magic Faraway Tree,Biggles of the 226 or Hardy Boys
They want a net book and a trampoline-go figure

Good advice, and I would take a good ole fashion book any day over this book device (the idea just seems boring to me). BUT, I think Redman is right about younger ones relating more to this device.
BTW, do they come with search options?

Believe so-the joke is that in a fit of impulse buying I bought one for me -but Im personally suspect of leaving the new book smell.
Buuuut what it does for me is give me access to the daily news papers and weekly periodicals that I would like to use(for work) but dont use cuz its only accessible online.
So I will let you know.
