If Fifa actually believes Chelsea are the only club guilty of this particular offence in world football, then naivety is being stretched to its furthest point .

that will never stick
by next month that ban will be lifted and the fine will be cut in half and is business as usual
imagine you buy a player who eh even play for yuh first team and end up in a world of hot water and expense

Meanwhile Uefa, European football's governing body, is keen to introduce a rule preventing the international transfer of players under the age of 18 after member associations, clubs, leagues and players agreed to the principle.
Speaking in March, Uefa president Platini: "The question of minors is above all a moral and ethical issue. We have a duty to take concrete steps to protect young players and training clubs."
As Platini recognizes here, there is a duty to protect minor players.
Seeing that this young fella was under 18 when the infraction occurred, I don't think FIFA should punish him, as it should be understood that he is not fully aware of the legal ramifications at a tender age.
I'm not sure how the law works over there, but in Canada and the US, a minor under 18 cannot be held liable for any contract breaches.

First the comment that an all English final wasnt good for football, then the ban for Eduardo, then this. Platini coming down real hard on the brit clubs.........

Why start this sort of thing now?...why not wait until after the UEFA finals in May and then after the World Cup in July?......Chelsea will just play harder and better.

I'm surprised that this surprised you mammadon. This is not a new practice, all the big clubs do it but FIFA have chosen Chelsea to make an example out of. They are an easy scapegoat anyway because of Abramovich's $$
I'm sure the ban will be reduced to one transfer window if not completely removed. I agree though, the governing bodies coming down hard on English clubs for some reason.

That is harsh punishment, I hope Chelsea win their appeal.

Fifa punished Switzerland's FC Sion for a similar offence in April and the club was told it could not sign players until the 2010 off-season.
This was punishment for luring Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary in 2008 before his deal with Al-Ahly had expired.
Like Kakuta, El Hadary received a four-month ban from playing.
Sion have appealed to Cas, which has frozen the sanctions while it considers the case, allowing the club to trade before the current season began. A ruling is expected later this year.
Not so fast broadsword...unless you want to argue that FIFA is scapegoating FC Sion also. It looks pretty even handed to me.
And I say that as a Chelsea fan.

Ah yes Majik, good point. Roma were involved in a similar incident a few years ago as well, they appealed it and the ban was reduced to one transfer window from the original two.
Those bans on Roma and FC Sion were not nearly as widely publicized as this, in fact many people didn't even know about these bans until this one was churned out. Roma are arguably a big club but this ban on a club of the magnitude of Chelsea is unprecedented which is what all the fuss is about this time around.
As a Chelsea fan as well, I'm not going to argue that Chelsea are innocent here. You and I know they have been involved in shady dealings in the past but this practice doesn't start and stop at Chelsea and if FIFA intends to open this can of worms then I expect that a number of other big clubs, Man Utd, Inter, Real Madrid just to name a few, come under scrutiny in the same light.
A real sort of siege mentality has been building when it comes to Chelsea in the last few seasons and this will only add to it. This is a huge setback for Chelsea and what they were aiming to achieve in the near future.

Platini is a madman on a rampage.
Middle Eastern ownership will prove to be the saviour of British clubs and British high class football. When the squeeze take effect on the continent, they too will be selling up. Let me see if the Barca model could stand up to a few years of this recession.
The Michelle will be changin she tune.

Let me see if the Barca model could stand up to a few years of this recession.
The Barca model has been in place for decades and has survived recessions before.
Platini clearly has an agenda but I think its also a case of UEFA getting fed up with Chelsea. This would be the fourth time where they've been found guilty of tapping up players. You have to ask yourself why Platini hasn't come down on Real Madrid as they continually try to unsettle potential targets through the media (AS and Marca) or having their players go public with the obligatory 'Player x would be a great signing for us, I welcome it' sound bite...
