According to the sixteenth-century French philosopher Michael de Montaigne, each one of us carries the full burden of the human condition. All that we see in others - both the darkness and the light - is also present in ourselves.

In a old folktale a snake was once asked whether it would have preferred to have legs, if given the choice. The snake was mystified by the question. "No," it said, "I am what I am," We are what we are. We need have no wish for anything that we do not have

My mother said it was simple to keep a
man, you must be a maid in the living
room, a cook in the kitched and a wh...

When bad things happen to us, there is a temptation to look for someone to blame - whether ourselves or another person. As antidote meditate on the image of Blind Justice. With her scales, sword blindfold, she reminds us that, from a broader spiritual perspective, reality is always just - everything happens for a reason, although at the time we may not understand what the reason is. From this perspective it becomes easier to accept events as they are.

Such people expend energy on finding a way that may not exist and feeling bad about failure. You cannot will yourself into the sky, so don't even attempt it.

Lead me from death to life, from falsehood to
truth.
Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to
trust.
Lead me from hate to love, from war to peace.
Let peace fill our heart, our world, our universe.

Don't express your ideas too clearly. Most people
think little of what they understand, and
venerate what they do not.
