Islam on Capitol Hill, Please plan on attending, U.S.A
Written by Sharon Philip World Sep 11, 2009
Here is a chance for you to become part of history. A Muslim group is organizing a National Jummah prayer in Capitol Hill on September 25, 2009. Over 50,000 participants are anticipated. Muslims will be travelling from all over the country to be a part of the prayer. The event is being called, Islam on Capitol Hill. The objective of this gathering is to invite the Muslim Communities and friends of Islam to express and illustrate the wonderful diversity of Islam. To follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to inspire a new generation of Muslims to work for the greater good of all people. All Muslims shall serve all people, regardless of race, religion or national origin. Muslims are such a diverse group and they come in all shapes and colors. The organizers intend to manifest Islam’s majestic spiritual principals as revealed by Allah to our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Please make an effort to attend and show solidarity.

On September 25th peace, beauty and solidarity of Islam will shine through America’s capitol. The day is being celebrated as a day of Islamic unity for American Muslims. The Athan will be chanted on Capitol Hill, echoing off of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and other great edifices that surround Capitol Hill. Thousands of Muslims from all races, creeds, colors and ethnicities will gather for the sole purpose of prayer. Bonds of friendship will be formed between those in attendance, both Muslims and Non-Muslims Muslim youth will experience tours of the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court.

Sheikh Jebril and Sheikh Ahmed Dewidar will recite the holy Quran. Here is a little bit about both gentlemen according to the website:

MUHAMMAD AL SAID HUSSAYN JEBRIL is known in the Islamic world as “Sheikh Jebril”. He got the B.A degree in Islamic Law at Al-Azhar University. He learned Koran by the age of 9. More that once, Sheikh Jebril won the Egyptian and international competitions of Koran recitation. He was named as Imam of the famous mosque Amr Ibn Al’Ass in Cairo in 1988. Every year, thousands of people rush to the mosque during Ramadan to attend the Tarawih prayers that are lead by him. Sheikh Muhammad Jebril is, also, a University professor in Jordan. He has plenty of complete recitations of Koran. He took part and organised several TV shows in lots of Arab channels around the Koranic theme. At last, Sheikh Jebril is especially admired for the quality of his “Dou’as Al Qunût” (Invocations during prayer).

SHEIKH AHMED DEWIDAR was born and raised in Rashid (Rosetta), a port city on the Mediterranean Sea coast. By age 12, he had memorized the Qur’an with the help of his father, Sheikh Sayed Al-Tantawy Dewidar. He later studied law at the University of Alexandria, and completed his master’s degree in Shariah (Islamic law) in 1993. Dewidar traveled to New Jersey nearly a decade ago to lead a small Muslim community in their nightly tarawih prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Only six years later, he stood shoulder to shoulder with US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary General Kofi Anan at Ground Zero as Imam of the Islamic Center in Mid-Manhattan to speak on behalf of the Muslim community to condemn the September 11 attacks. Dewidar, an instructor at Manhattanville College, made New York his home and soon established the Islamic Center in mid-Manhattan.

People from all 50 states are attending. Over 500 buses have been booked for the event. For bus locations for your area you can contact your local Masjid, call 718-518-1464 or email: islamoncapitolhill@gmail.com.

Please help the cause first of all by attending and encouraging others to attend. All Muslims are encouraged to take part in this historic event taking place on Capitol Hill on September 25, 2009. The organizers need your help in promoting the event. Please distribute flyers to your local Masjids, Islamic centers, Colleges, Universities, Restaurants, Hospitals, Muslim owned businesses. I am sure most of you use twitter and Facebook. Posting the event on your Twitter or Facebook will go a long way in helping people learn about it. Please get in touch with the travel coordinator to see if you can help organize and coordinate the local transportation in your area.

As I said earlier, please plan on attending and spread the word. This is the time to show solidarity and show fellow Americans that we take pride in being Muslim Americans. May Allah’s blessings be with you.
