So Manning won 25 seats, what does that mean for T&T? Do these results signal an overwhelming mandate for Manning? Will the number of young black men killing other young black men suddenly come to a crashing halt? Will decent folks, the ones who work hard and sacrifice to accquire the finer things in life, be able to finally remove the iron bars that give them some semblance of safety at night? Will healthcare make a U turn and head for the 21st century? Will water, the most basic need, still be an issue a year from now or even five years from today? Will the record price of oil on the world market make even a tiny ripple in the lives of the 14% of our people living below the poverty line? Will this win put us in the passing lane to first world status?
Talk about pipe dreams! In reality, it will be business as usual PNM style. Waste and unaccounted millions will continue to be the order of the day. Murders will continue to rise, like a dick overdosed on viagara. These same jubiliant PNM supporters will continue to make up the vast majority of victims and perpetrators of violent crimes in our nation. In other words, it will be the same old same old. Manning will continue to have his 2020 vision for his family, and every other bitch and dey brother go have to fend fuh themselves.
Congratulations Patrick, go celebrate with ah private jet. You deserve the victory, even though you won on less than 40% of the popular vote.

Let them uncee fools rant and cuss and fret over the fact that the NON Indos have chosen the PNM to govern this great little island, Mr Mannings knows very well that the ppl of T&T have no desire for an "Executive President" Never mind that Panday had once floated the idea of an Executive President from the party with the most votes and a PM from the party with the least amount of votes. Recounts have been requested in the following as the margins are within around two and three hundred votes:
Mayaro
Cumuto/Manzanilla
...and since Fyzo was so close, I expect there too..
the score is 26 - 15 at the moment and even if they don't get anymore, they have 6 more than before and an eleven seat advantage.
All the best!

I don't think the recount would have much effect. If the margin between the parties was under 100 then it might have an effect...but 200 and 300+, I doubt those results would change.

Pars, yuh inviting me to de celebration?
Hi Peanut! You will always be most welcome to anything that I am involved in!
I was really glad for "Stretch" and Mustapha. They were very active in The UWI Students Guild when I was there as an undergraduate.
Special congrats to Neil Parsanlal who was my prefect in St. Mary's.
Also to Kerwyn Garcia (another CIC Old Boy) who co-managed Christine Kangaloo's campaign. They really deserved the victory in Pointe-a-Pierre.
I know many on this forum will be disappointed with the outcome.
As I said to my friend Sumana......suck it up....understand what this result means and strive to do better and work harder. Hatred and anger are manifestations of fear....nothing more and nothing less. Do not fear the unknown and regale in the fact that there is nothing out there that you cannot change by positive action.
I have been posting a number of short essays on my observations since the old forum......26-15-0....the re-emergence of Ramesh.....the strategies that he would use to ultimately gain control of the UNC......the demise of Kamla.
Most went without comment with the exception from Peanut, Macco Girl, Jedi Knight and, of late, cm103.
There are a number of "truisms" in our politics...some good.....some bad. However, we are progressing as a people and that is what is important. We are learning even if sometimes it appears that we are re-playing the same movie......faltering with the same missteps....but we are still learning what it means to occupy this space...this place....that we call home.
Going off to sleep now whilst thinking of morning frost blanketing autumn fields........ :)

I expect that there will be a lot of disappointed people on this forum who will choose to use crass language to describe the UNC loss instead of analyzing what happened.
This was not an election on the performance of the PNM as much as a referendum on the workings of the UNC. It is clear that results are an outright repudiation of the politics of the UNC. The COP vote was not so much a rejection of the PNM as it was a rejection of the UNC as it is currently constituted.
To understand this strip out the COP votes received in Tobago, Diego Martin, Laventille and the two POS seats. I say this because the UNC was never competitive here even when they held the government. The COP vote count in the other constituencies shows that people wanted something else other than the UNC.
This is a fact that a number of my fellow forumites have to accept.
The PNM cannot rest on its laurels either. Yes they got the largest share of the youth vote (it was evident in the very high turnout of FIRST TIME VOTERS in Chaguanas East, Princes Town South/Tableland, Point Fortin, Barataria/San Juan, St. Joseph and the Arouca seats. However, a strong protest vote must be noted in the Diego Martin and POS seats by those who voted for the COP. The COP has essentially gotten the NAR vote of 1991 in the North West peninsula.

The fact is, anyone with experience in T&T politics should have expected nothing different, and would be like me this morning, watching the numbers instead of displaying animousity against any of the Parties.
I agree with you Pars, the PNM cannot sit on it's laurels as they have lost a significant number of voters in this election and that should be of concern to them especially where Manning is already contemplating another election in the near future in the hope to achieve a Constitutional Reform.
Winston, all is fair in love, war and politics. Sometimes we make the right decisions for all the wrong reasons and all the wrong decisions for the right reasons. The COP has 5 years in which to garner support and build a solid base for the next election. You fought a good fight and must be commended for that.
T&T, I'm sorry but whatever befalls the Country under the PNM you deserve it, for it was your voters who elected a political party into Govt that is of Manning, for Manning and by Manning.
Mr. Manning, I told you years ago God sees it all especially what's in your heart, that you are wicked and evil to the core, and he will never allow you to get so high that He becomes insignificant. I told He will never allow you the opportunity to oppress His people and that His words will never return void unto Him. Maybe you are yet to realize that God is the Great Observer and not a politician.
