Some polling station are allowing cell phones when the EBC clearly stated that all cell phones need to be placed in bin before going to vote

they can only ask you not to walk with it...they cannot mandate it...they cannot legally stop it

Seems that talk is being spread but I heard it was CEPEP workers that were told to take a pic of how they voted and they will be paid so I am not sure where this talk is coming from. Some polling station are asking persons to leave their phones in a basket at the door while others are not. EBC did say that they should leave them at the door but seems that news did not make it to everyone.

Good link there sylvestter.
I'm going to sticky this thread. If any of the other mods/admins have objections please unsticky it.
A note to members: Leave the party bickering OFF this thread. Let us keep it in line with the author's intentions to keep updated with polling as the day rolls on.

that is illegal for employers to do so. Voting is your civic duty and employers cannot block people from voting.
i know but the employees are afraid to say anything for fear of losing their jobs..

and that is why election day should be made a holiday...just avoid confusion like this, Its not like people actually doin work today.

In some countries you are only allowed time off to vote if, you regular commute to work takes you out of your voting vicinity before the polls open, and your return to that vicinity is after the polls are closed. Some people incorrectly assume that everyone is entitled to time off to vote regardless.
Is it the same in T&T?
yes in T&T the law allows for a person to be granted 2 hours time off to vote.

Accross the board, or is it in the situations I outlined?
Reason why I ask it that in my country for instance, if you live and work in the same area and say you start work at 10:00am and the polling stations open at 8:00 am, or if you finish work at 4:00pm and the polling stations don't close until 8:00pm you are 'technically' not entitled to that time off; however it is always a 'bone of contention' with all staff wanting the 2 hours off.
2 hours across the board.

2 hours off across the board. Such is the law. I do not think it has ever been amended to make allowances for flextime or off-peak hours.
I am hearing of extremely high voter turnout. My station was a small one and very quiet; however I saw the station in Crystal Stream very crowded - plenty people inside and traffic with cars parked all over the pavement and the grass behind the school. One person I spoke to said the Diamond Vale Govt Primary station was extremely crowded with cars parked stretching far from the station itself at 5:30 in the morning. Another reported spending an hour and a half in line at the International School Westmoorings station. Another reported similar from the Arouca area.
Looks like a very high voter turnout. This will make the final result difficult to predict. Tonight will be very interesting.

On average what has the volume of voter turn out been in T&T?
most people seem to be remarking on the increased numbers this time; does that mean that this time around T&T can be experiencing higher percentage of eligible voters casting their vote?
turnout is usually 65% or so.

I think a lot of people are just more conscious of the political climate and have decided to cast their ballot. In the past a lot of people, particularly the youth stayed away from the polls. This year's campaign has been hard fought with many issues raised and directed at the previously disenchanted/uninterested voters. I expect maybe 80 or even 85% turnout this year.

That would be fantastic if the turn out were in the 80's, especially if finally they were able to engage the young.
I have to admit, holding 'voyeur status' was quite an 'eye opener' (pun intended) for me; never in my whole life have I seen or heard of a 'jump and wine' election campaign; I wonder if the average Trinidadian knows that this is quite unique?
i know but the employees are afraid to say anything for fear of losing their jobs..
well if they do lose their job for taking 2 hrs off to vote, then the employer can be fined or sent to jail!!!! they shouldnt be intimidated by their employers..
however, i dont know what the situation is for evening shift workers.. at my office day shift workers got 2 leave 2 hrs early, but evening shift workers didnt get any time off

PNM declaring victory already , it seems even without the COP the UNC couldn't have won it anyway, maybe an extra 2 or 3 marginals , not enough to claim victory .

Ignorance Prevail! Just like I said before and they did win.........evidently..... the majority of people from the twin islands of T& T ......is not yet ready for change :!: May the kidnappings continue. May the INDIAN businessmen and women continue to live in fear for they lives. May the old age never cross 65 because of the lack of a proper health care system. May the Pot holes get bigger. May the pockets of those in high office continue to grow heaftier...........and I could go on all night long. Enjoy another five years of doom and gloom...... please don't complain.

Panday did not help the UNCA by telling COP voters to go to hell and that if their family members are murdered in the future it's their fault. Panday should know you don't win votes like that. The COP has a good message.

I guess the people embraced the vision of being a first rated country ---which is the pnm's vision... now which people wouldnt want to be a first rated people... that mass transit the housing program ... the contracts for so many people to have their own small company be it whatever ......its obvious that a lot of people are pleased when they weight out all the pro's against the con's which includes crime.
