Where do you all go for it? My cousins have always been in the Palmiste Park Ram Leela...I'll prob go there this year finally...shame to say I never been!! I used to go to ******wood, now known as Hermitage Village. When I was small, I lived across the road from Palmiste and went to Canaan Pres. My uncle, Sonny Ramadhin, was discovered at the cricket ground next to the pond. And, sad to say, one of my best friends from Esperance, dove in head first into that pond, got stuck, and drowned. I have never been to Palmiste Park since then.

The transelation is Ram's (Hindu avatar of God) story. Its basically a play depicting the story of the Ramayan (hindu text). Culminates in a huge fire in which an effigy of the demon Ravan is burnt.

Never been to Ram Leela before...........Guy .......ah tout "******wood" was Gandhi Village?Yuh right. Eric changed the name to Ghandi Village from ******wood. From the main road by Palmiste, when you take the cut-off, past the Overseer house, the left road leads to Hermitage Village aka Hillpiece. Travel further down and you run into Ghandi Village. Continue down that road and you end up in Debe.

The road from Palmiste to Debe still existing. You pass the mosque on the hill and come out in a road before Debe market.
The road tht goes to Ghandi Village from Palmiste exist but it's sorta abandoned and people go dump rubbish there etc.

I take this pic today.
If you look into my side mirror you wud see the road coming out from Palmiste into the SS Erin Road (Near Debe Market).
I was in traffic at the lights and decided to take this pic
Like they fixing the road becos it had a barrier and those Police men.
The road is used as a short cut from traffic by many maxi and taxi drivers. You exit by Palmiste park.

What I can remember is standing behind a bamboo fence, eating ice cream and watching what going on.

Khartik Sankranti was October 17th, 2007

We called it Kartik Nahan down Waterloo where lots of folks normally gather to bathe at the sea during that time of year. Attracted a lot of teenagers from the other villages. It's one of the things am documenting in a website am creating on Waterloo.

In Esmeralda Road, Esmeralda. The Road is opposite the big church on the main road. The Ramleela there is really nice! I've always wanted to go Felicity, I hear it's really nice but they get a lot of crowds, so I'll have to go early if I'm going.

Yeah, I get disoriented in crowds. I feel as if someone will walk into me and then when it seems that they will, they walk around me...leaving me feeling somewhat confuffled. Plus, to go to dem things yuh have to reach early to get a good park. Next ting yuh park far and somebody tief yuh car. :?
