After the threats Manning sues the Express for libel cause they allegedly printed a lie about him. I am baffled by this; Mr. Manning also threatened to sue for libel the woman who say she have a child for him cause she supposedly lied too but he didn't. WHY DIDN'T HE?

Five days after he issued a 24-hour deadline to apologise for alleged defamatory statements made against him, Prime Minister Patrick Manning has sued the Express newspaper for libel.

Manning's attorney, Anthony Bullock, at 3.10 yesterday afternoon, filed a statement of claim against Express reporter Camini Marajh and the Trinidad Express Newspapers Ltd for libel after the paper's attorneys denied liability in connection with a Sunday Express article. The lawsuit also seeks to stop the Express Newspapers from publishing anything further on the matter.

Looks to me like the Express is standing by their story/sources/reporter.

This is the second time in one week the Express has been sued. The other common factor is Camini Marajh.

I think if the Express is standing by the stories they printed they must have good reasons.

regarding the outside woman. becuase he already won that election. the allegation only came out on Sunday, he won on monday and afterwards the allegations didnt matter.

in this election he needs to be seen taking visible action agianst the allegations, to maintian his votes.

I had a chat about this with my younger brother who is an attorney and two of his other colleagues.

This is a slam dunk case for Patrick Manning.

Why the Express did not print a retraction is beyond me.....but then they put out the NACTA poll as front page news without checking out Bisram carefully either.

^^^ Let me guess, that young brother who is an attorney, is also a PNM fanatic ?

So what he suing them for ??? That the express lied about him having a house in Germany and that his son got a scholarship?? That is the issue, I would of thought that article had something more important in there and that is the fact that Manning undersold a company for a nice donation to the PNM coffers.

Some how I don't see the shock and dismay from Manning on this matter, but he so hurt because people say David get a scholarship and have a house in Germany. One paper already said it was a run down dorm not a lavish mansion so what is the big issue that is causing all this hurt to Manning???

The Express has seen all the checks, and other documents and have taken a position that their decision to print was well founded and will stand up in court

Parsifal, when your brother offered his council, did he first look at all the documented evidence? or just pull out his Balisier Cristal ball?

The disussion centered around how the writer took three distinct issues and attempted to link them without any proof but by just making the statements.

The cheque was made out to the PNM and not to Patrick Manning.

There was no linkage shown between any PNM bank account and Patrick Manning.

There was no linkage shown between CL/FHL and the Government for the sale of the remaining State holding in the Methanol Co.....only supposition.

There was no linkage shown between CL/FHL and the Manning's education of their son.....only supposition.

The Express has not proffered any other documentary proof to substantiate any of their allegations.

Finally, the proof of the strength of their story is surely in the aftermath.....have you not noticed that the Express has done no follow up on their own story?

So look at the evidence presented in the article. Look at how it was written and then get back to me with your comments in light of what I have said.

Pasi, I discounted that story before it even broke on the Express. The reason being, days before I left T&T, in the privacy of Mr. Manning's office with no visible witness, I gave him a considerable sum of money [cash] as a donation to the PNM. Later that evening I had a call from the Treasurer thanking me for my generous contribution. He could have kept the money and no one would have been the wiser, but he didn't, at it was at the time when he was in dire financial straits.

I have my beef with Mr. Manning, but there is no one who can convince me that he is crooked in any way shape or form, and I will go to my grave defending his integrity on that score 8-)

for all the vex peanut vex with Manning she came out and called a spade a spade. Admirable.

I also don't believe he's crooked. Those around him may be, based on my experiences with some of his underlings but he probably isn't.

Whether he think he's God's gift to this country is another story in my opinion but maybe peanut can clear that one up

He definitely thinks HE IS [not necessarily the PNM] divinely annointed, appointed and is God's gift to T&T, hence the reason he is so arrogant, hard-headed and cocky. :D

We me and peanut actually agree on that one point. What a ting :)

He is an arrogant SOB, even more so in the past few years, and thats based on the meetings I've had with him.

I have know the man personally for over 26 years. And is not only one thing we agree on, we agree that a change is definitely needed if T&T is to become the Nation Paradise we have known her to be and have boasted of, the only thing we don't agree on is which party is best to do it at this present time.

I respect your views penut. but I think Mr. Manning has just done a fabulous job of keeping his image clean in recent times, but I also think that this is just a political skill that he has honned and not necessary indicative of his true levels of integrity

Oh don't get me wrong, Manning's integrity especially with the ladies leaves a lot to be desired, however he is not going to compromise it any further with any underhandedness.
