...I wonder if they shouldn't have a look at the substituion limit of 3.

I've been thinking about this ever since last year's Euros when the Turkish star boy had to play keeper for the last few minutes of a match since they had no subs left.

My idea is along the lines of allowing a keeper swap outside of the 3 limit. In the Turkey case, I seem to remember the keeper got a red card. In that case, I would allow a substitute keeper to come on and have one of the other players sit out instead.

I really feel for a team that has used it's 3 subs and then has it's keeper fall to injury.

Also, in matches that have to be end with a winner, I think allowing a 4th sub in the Extra Time period may be worth looking at.

What do you guys think?

Well up to the 90s, 2 points were awarded for a victory and there were only 2 subs allowed which both grew into 3 as the laws evolved.

I know there is talk about having a special sub, outside of the 3 subs, for a keeper as that is a specialist position.

I think if the keeper gets an injury and you already used up your 3 subs that you could have a point for arguing for swapping an outfield player for the sub goalie however I wouldn't support the case if a keeper gets a red card.

But then teams might start to lobby that when they use up 3 subs they might make players fake injury and have them sub those OUTFIELD players. So FIFA would have to look at all the scenarios that would keep the game fair and entertaining and preventing managers/coaches from abusing loopholes.

For example if in a world cup final if Brazil is down 1-0 with 10 mins to go, they could take off their keeper and bring on Ronaldinho and have one of their defenders goal keep in order to be more offensive. And then if they score they could sub off another one and bring on the sub keeper. So technically you could be subbing at intervals and having fresh players all the time. Or subbing to run down the clock and slowing down the flow of the game.

Ronnie couldn't come on in my rule. The keeper could only sub with the man who is listed as the 2nd keeper on the Game Sheet. This would mean listing your 2 keepers on the Sheet before every match. Of course, if the second keeper gets injured the current rules would be in effect; he could only sub out if the team has subs left.

Maybe for a 4th sub the teams could be required to do it in between the 90 and the beginning of ET. I think it would please fans more, if someone is underperforming, or if the energy of new feet would give the match a little more gusto.

wasnt this trialled in a league or a tournament? It makes for a better game in these professional times. I see it as a forward step much like wiping all yellows after the semis/quarters to ensure the best teams possible play big games.
