i went by maracas bay with some friends yesterday, and of course had the usual bake and shark.

but how come Richard's has plenty customers, and the other bake and shark places on the beach doh have none? :?

how are they making any money, and getting revenue to buy the shark, flour, condiments and thing?

I went to Maracas for bake and shark last year when I was on vacation, went to Richards because I saw everyone buying from them so i assumed it was the best. So I buy it, but when time to sit and eat, all the tables directly close to Richards were occupied so I sat in the next available table which was infront their neighbour (they shared a unit with Richards). The vendor (lady) who was running that stall told me I needed to get up and move (she pointed in the direction of Richard's).

I guess I now know why Richards gets all thier customers......

Carnival time is the worst. But whatever it is, Richard's does lash. I just doh like all dem stink dogs that roam the area waiting to pick up scraps. And the flies!!! But, its relatively clean and my fave condiment is the tamarind sauce!!!!!!

Richards is all hype and could do with some competent competition. If I was going up against Richards I'd make my stall more attractive, have lower prices and faster turn around times. Condiments should be added during the assembly of the sandwich, lessening the chances for contamination by flies and the dirty hands of the public.

On a side note, one of the things that really get my goat in T&T is the long wait time for food service. This is not rocket science and every business should realise that fast moving lines mean more customers will be served, increasing the bottom line. It doesn't help matters that our citizens are so patient, when it comes to waiting in long lines for food. Hmmm, maybe I will venture into the fast food bidness in Trinidad, when I kiss Toronto goodbye.

Dem bake and whatever is more hype than food. "you must go Maracas for a bake and shark when you come to Trinidad." It have no taste and if wasn't for them set ah choopidness that is really the taste, nobody winda eat it. Anybody who know about the lady who use to sell bake and shark on Old St. Joseph Rd in the 60's-mih Daddy use to buy dat- or the lady at the bottom of Richplain Road in Diego in the 70's could never eat that Maracas misrepresentation and find it good. I went up dey the other day with my cousin from Oklahoma and they oohin and aahin-ah feel sorry for them.

Any food that you have to mask with tambran sauce and garlic sauce and ketchup and mustard and chado beni and whatever else cyant be worth a fart. If allyuh doh believe mih try eating it just so nah?

you can say that again.

the line at subway by trincity mall takes 20 minutes to move down. how long it take to make a sandwich? :? in uk, you're in and out of subway in 5 minutes top. if i'm hungry at lunchtime, me eh waiting 20 minutes or more for food! it's the same with the bank too; an hour in line just to Moneygram money overseas, or transfer money from accounts? steups.

i also despise waiting in queues, so this probably the the main factor in my dislike of Trinidadian food service.

Its the mentality people, the mentality. Shields, you're right. Anything would end up tasting good with those condiments. The tamarind sauce and pepper really does mask everything else. But its really good.

People probably don't mind waiting that long because it's not a daily purchase. It's part of the Maracas experience that they pay for 1-3 times a year.

I hate lines so I just plain don't buy if the line is too long. That goes for any food and any service I can avoid, including bill-paying. And I think the other vendors taste as good, if not better, than Richard's. Plenty of Richard's is just hype, as some others have mentioned.

mammadon, I'd love to see a video of someone at the end of a 20-person-deep line in a UK Subway get their sandwich made and cashed in 5 minutes. Subway could probably stand to increase their speed, but even at optimal efficiency, I think the problem is the number of people buying during prime periods.

At lunchtime, in the town I used to live in, i didn't take long to get served, even during busy periods. Whenever i was in central London during the middle of the day, Subways on Oxford Street would only take 5 (maybe 10 minutes max) to serve 15-20 or so customers.

Guys in NYC even thought there is a long line is not more than 10-15 mins, the service is usually quick in Subways here and dunkin donuts...now i went to Florida and it am sure it took me 20 mins just to get my bfast order fr Dunkin D'. I guess NY is rush rush and FLA is all laid back kinda pace.

As for the bake and shark.... the condiments do help but then again think of doubles if not for the pepper it aint go taste so good either....

Is the combination of the sea, sand and sun that makes a hot bake and shark taste good, not the taste itself. I will agree w all the other posters, Richards bake and shark is crap.
