I hear a lot about Sat Maharaj, but i'm interested to know what his views - re Hinduism - are.

Does he lead a seperate denomination in Trinidad? How do his views, again in reference to Hinduism, differ from most other Trinidadian Hindus? Is Sat (if only unofficially or de facto) the leader of Hindus in the country?

Is there anybody here who agrees with Sat? If so, why?

Why not pose these questions to Sat directly ?

IMO Sat is the unofficial SPOKEMAN for the Maha Sabha .Controversial and colorful as he maybe ,no one can deny that he have done a whole lot of good for the hindu community with regards to recognition , equal rights , funding and now its very own radio station .

Mammadon, I think that Sat's views are a bit too conservative. Personally, I think that Hinduism is more open to embracing change, which is why i dont agree with what Satnarine has to say, usually.
Sat is the secretary general of the Sanaatan Dharma Maha Sabha, which translates roughly ( I think) to the great community of Sanaatan Dharma. I have always supported the SDMS, but for personal reasons. My guru is a member of their pundits parshad and 1 of my uncles was once the deputy darmacharya (spiritual head)...I even went to a SDMS primary school....the temple i go to is an SDMS temple...
Just fyi, other Hindu organizations in Trinidad are Swaha and Hindu Prachar Kendra

Why do you think his views are too conservative?

Based on comments that Sat is "conservative", I would say is not the case.
One cannot mix the religious and the secular and hope to come to a feasible or reasonable conclusion. On one hand Sat wants the government to provide equity in funding for cultural organizations (a positive change!) and on the other his rhetoric, at times appears to go against what he appears to be preaching.

The present regime has shown itself to be oppressive (inequity) in funding while at the same time knowing full well that the lesser of 2-3 evils will allow the status quo to proliferate.

I'm wondering that too. I've seen Sat Maraj go about strongly advocating sex education in schools (starting at Primary school level), and further going a long way towards accepting miscegenation within the local hindu community. If that's defined as "conservative" for Hindu beliefs, then what's liberal?

i shouldnt generalize and say all his views...
i think a while ago, he said he wouldnt want his daughter to marry a black guy or something...he would disown her or something along those lines....

more like his views on certain topics are too conservative...

there were other instances, but they escape my mind right now...
