I didn't know if I should have posted this in the Food section but anyway, watch out for tamarind candy from Mexico such as Picarindo. I just recently learned that these types of candies contain extremely high levels of lead and I know it's being sold in TnT because my grandmother would bring bags of it when she came to visit us, and it's being sold on trinifood.com. Apparently the lead comes from the clay pots they make it in and also the wrappers they are put in.

Check out this pdf for more information or just do a google search for "picarindo".

If you are ever concerned about the amout of lead, or any other metals in your system, a simple blood test done by a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine can reveal these levels and let they will let you know if you should be concerned.

regular doctors can also do, and interperate these test, but do not normally concern themselves with these findings unless it is directly related to something they are treating (from my experience).
