A warrant dated May 28 this year has been issued for People's National Movement (PNM) candidate for Laventille West, NiLeung Hypolite, for the alleged assault of a police officer.

According to police sources, the warrant was issued following an alleged incident on December 13 last year at the police mess on Long Circular Road, St James.

The Express attempted to get a comment from Hypolite yesterday but he was said to be out of his constituency office.

When contacted, the alleged victim, Assistant Superintendent Narcisse Cadette, declined comment on the affair and told the Express, "this is out of my hands". The Express understands, however, that the St Clair Police Station are continuing investigations.

The matter was raised by Congress of the People chairman Roy Augustus at a political meeting on Monday night in St Joseph. -Gyasi Gonzales

When it is done against the opponents of the PNM Government it is called persecution/politically motivated, when it is done against themselves it is called balance.

Given that Manning has said that it is against PNM policy to have candidates with ongoing court cases (ie Achong) does that mean Hypolite will stand down from the election ?

When it is done against the opponents of the PNM Government it is called persecution/politically motivated, when it is done against themselves it is called balance.
You know, I've seen so many posts on this forum (and others) that make T&T Police look like PNM servants. I can't count how many times I've seen the phrase, "PNM Police." Somehow, I now find it strange to see prominent PNM people getting charged with anything. Yeah, I know some will come here and say, "why they eh lock up Rowley or Monteil?" And that may be a reasonale question to ask.
But this Hypolite fella is a candidate for a seat. That seat is considered a PNM 'safe seat.' Why would 'PNM Police' jeopardize a safe seat in a quest for their so-called special majority? In fact, why would 'PNM Police' lock up so many PNM supporters, as a look at T&T's prison population would show the majority of prisoners come from 'PNM areas?"

I dislike the PNM for their ideology. I dislike those in the PNM who are corrupt, and there are many. But never have I felt the police are simply a tool used by the PNM to keep opponents under thumbscrews.

Peanut,
are you asking us or telling us about the Independence ofthe DPP?
That nice bubble was busted long ago, but now Manning want to have it entrenched into the law that the AG will directly control the DPP and tell him who and when to lay charges and who and when to let go free.
If you doubt me just look at the Bajan fishermen case,up to this day NOOO BODY know who instuct the police prosecutor to drop the case and free them Bajans.
The DPP who instructed the police to lay charges and prosecute say he doh have a clue as to who instructed the prosecutor to drop the case and the police refuse to say who instructed them. Maybe it was a crank caller.
BTW what happen to the Monteil HDB shares issue it ded or what, did Monteil sell back the shares to HDB ?
Manning say that he was going to make him return the shares for the same money he paid for them, has that happened? I am not holding my breath. That is boldface PNM corruption, daylight robbery open and in yuh face.
Manning rushed through two pieces of legislation, one to facilitate the thievery and the other to facilitate the escape. That one was the las lap before the election jess in case dey lorse de boys take one fuh de road.
