Trinidad & Tobago is taking part in this campaign and it would be launched next week Tuesday 30th October 2007. They would have the planting of the first tree in this campaign at the Botanic Gardens.
The pledge T&T made to this campaign is 5000trees.

A campaign to plant a billion trees in a single year was launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2006. The Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign is intended to encourage people and organizations everywhere to take small but practical steps to reduce global warming, which many experts believe is the most important environmental challenge of the 21st century

The committee decided to target Primary and Secondary schools in this campaign.

The planting of the trees is taking place at different dates throughout T&T.

I don't count how much but I can say many many many....WE volunteer in and out of the community. I make it a habit to plant one personal tree each year on my property. I have so far 3 pines, 2 mulberry, 1 tulip maple, 2 oak, 1 red maple, 2 mountain ash, 1 hawthorn, 2 sycamores on the property line, plus all the scrubs and ornamentals in the yard. I have ordered a pecan and a bradford pear from the foundation for next year's planting. I take into consideration wild life's habitat and food supply when planting. We have also personally planted trees and grasses at different lakes and the Bay areas.

Thts so great. Wish in TnT it can be so organised and have such participation every year.
But the good news is tht the schools I went to today all the principals are very open to the idea and are willing to participate.

That's great! Some schools in T&T has very good agricultural programs....they not afraid to get their hands dirty :D . I know some teachers at SSCS and SJSS who wouldn't mind joining this great event. What I don't comprehend is people cutting down trees and not replacing them. I had a visitor last year who was very obsessed with the broom......as soon as a leaf falls....she would run outside to sweep it away  ... then she would say " yuh cyar see no leaf in my yard nah! ah cut down all dem tree and de neighbor one too!".
